Today when l went in at work, there was not much to do.We did what was to be done but after 3 hours there was just nothing to be done any more.
My direct boss was not around, so my workmate told me l could leave earlier(we do it if there is no work)report to the boss, stamp out and leave.
When i went to report to the boss, she was not around,l signed out and left. When l went back to my work station my work mate asked? did you tell the boss? l said no, she`s not around.
Then she was undecided if l should leave or not.By this time, l had just 5 minutes to walk to the bus station so l did not have time to go looking for the boss.
On my way home, l kept thinking how stupid l had been, this is not my job,l just cant walk out because we do not have work.it`s usually not a problem after reporting to the boss, but today l was seriously wrong.
Now im so worried, l dont want a telling off,im so nervous about tomorrow and what the boss will say.l keep thinking ,"what was the rush to get home anyway?

Yes your impulse to get to the station overtook your judgement. I know how this is, but hopefully it will be alright my friend. I hope so.

Sometimes we listen to others and it leads us to doing things we usually wouldn't do. It sounds like what they are saying is a good logical idea but that is not always the case. I hope that everything will be okay tomorrow and that you won't get into trouble for leaving. I hope your boss is understanding about it.

Your direct boss was not around because you know she wasn't in today? Or she was in (working) but you couldn't find her and didnt' want to look for her?
If I was in that position - I would look for her since by looking for her you're still on the clock working. After 10-15 minutes of looking and she isn't around and it's a common thing to do leave if there isn't anything to do.. then I would maybe email or put a note.
Hopefully everything is okay.. Did you workmate go home?? OR were they trying to trick you and stay to make them look like the better person?!

I hope this turns out all right for you. It is a shame it happened but I guess you'll know better next time.

it has happened that l leave early but l always discuss it with her before signing out. It`s not common practice but done now and again, they dont pay overtime so whenever you have overtime, you can sign off earlier if there is no work for the day to reduce the over time hours.
