He was wrongfuly convicted of murder (Darryl Hunt)

Darryl Hunt was found dead a few days ago. In a parked car off of a busy street here in the city I live in. He was wrongfully convicted of a murder back in 1985. Deborah Sykes, an editor from a debunked newspaper was found sexually assaulted and murdered about two blocks from where she worked. Darryl Hunt was exonerated in the early 2000's when new evidence came to light and the real perpetrator confessed. He (Darryl) moved on with his life and seemed to forgive the ones who convicted him. He received a cash settlement for his wrongful imprisonment. He later founded an office to help those wrongfully convicted and recently out of prison. He was diagnosed with cancer that turned to stage 4 and was very depressed. The article I am going to share here is a bit outdated as it has now come to light that he killed himself. How sad it is, for a man who was just trying to live his life, to have it taken from him so brutally. *I posted this because a discussion by @TiarasOceanView made me think of it again.
Darryl Hunt, a man wrongfully convicted of murder in a highly publicized case in Winston-Salem and who became a symbol of forgiveness after being exonerated, was found dead Sunday morning by Winston-Salem police.

How very sad when a person suffers in this way Reality. It has to be one of the worst things to happen. Even knowing he did not do it, people point fingers. So sad that he took his own life. And to be so forgiving to those who wronged him makes it even more sad.

Yes, and all that he has done since he's been out of prison to help others in his circumstances. Then to be told "by the way you are going to die sooner than you thought." I couldn't imagine.

@ScribbledAdNauseum It is really inhumane the way some people are treated.

It must be horrible for a man, or woman, to be falsely charged and go through all that that implies. I can't even imagine what must go through an innocent man's mind while all of that is going on. Trial and then thinking surely he will get off, then jail and that is hell on earth. He went through a lot. And, who knows what happened in his personal life. Did they ever find the right perpetrator?

Yes he was released a few years back and pardoned by the governor at the time because new evidence had been found. All of that hope, you are right, and then it to all to shambles when he's convicted. It's amazing how much technology for evidence has improved as he was imprisoned 20 years ago.

What a shame that he was convicted of a crime he didn't commit. It had to be hard on him coming out of prison to be free again and then find out he was not free of cancer. I imagine he did not want to go through the agony ahead. RIP

Yes, I don't think he was ready or willing to deal with the pain from his cancer. I imagine he was lost and confused, all of this being thrown at him his whole life and then to be free and yet not completely. I suppose he's free now.

Aww, that's really sad, but I am glad that the truth did come to light and the real murderer put in jail! At least this guy didn't rot in a cell for the rest of his life.

Yes he had a really bad life. I can't imagine all that he went through and to forgive and try to move on only to have his life stunted.
