Who are you and what are you doing here? This is a question many of us ask ourselves throughout our lifetime. We may find the answers in the religious beliefs of our ancestors, in the societal norms of the day or from our own personal discoveries of who we are or who we want to be. Whatever or whom ever we are deep inside, we must understand ourselves in order to truly participate in life. Understanding our essence will determine who we want to be, what we want to do and how far we want to go in life. Do we accept what we think our lot is or do we strive for more? Are we content to accept the labels society places on us or are we strong enough to cast off those labels and create our own? Have we locked ourselves in a cage only to discover that all we need to do is step out - because the locks are only in our minds.? Understanding our essence is to know know ourselves and to show who we are, proudly to the world.

It is probably surprising how many people are restricted by what they think and believe to be true but isn't necessarily so.

I guess that all of us have a purpose and role that we have to fulfill in this world.

Yes, I think it's important in our life to find out who we are and why we are here - find out the purpose or meaning of life. Having questioned myself many times since I was young, I think I have finally found the answer or at least a more solid picture or understanding in these recent years, especially after becoming a mother. Having found the answer makes me feel contented in my life. The feeling is just great. I guess I am not the person who likes to accept whatever labels others place on me, I just want to be whom I want to be and do what I want to do (not affecting or harming others). Thanks for writing such a great article!
