A Mother??

Let me share with you what I saw yesterday.
A cow with its calf entered the garden of a house. The next moment a boy of 3 or 4 years of age, with a small rubber ball in his hand, came out of the house. The cow and the boy saw each other. In order to drive the cow out of the garden the boy shouted and raised his right hand as if he was going to hurl the ball with all the strength he had at the cow and its calf.Immediately the cow turned round, came in between the boy and her calf as if it was trying to shield her calf. And then both the cow and the calf ran out of the garden.
What was this? Was I seeing a mother trying to protect her child from a probable attack?Or,was it a usual reaction of an animal in the event of a threat?
I have no answer.

animals will shield their young, granted the calf was safe, that kid couldn't have thrown the ball that hard even if he had managed to hit something with it.

@Jessicalynnt,Yes,he was only pretending he was going to hurl the ball, but the cow, anticipating an attack shielded her calf.Perhaps the cow had mistaken the ball for a stone.

@Jessicalynnt Yes,cows don't know what a ball is.Everything that may be thrown at them and that hit them is a stone.

@Sreekala,Absolutely right.A mother, whether a woman or an animal,is ultimately a mother brimming with love for her child.I have realized the truth after seeing that cow.She completely covered her calf behind herself and ensured its safety and only then it ran away out of the garden.I'll never forget what I saw yesterday.

@kiran8,You are right. We human beings, especially us males, are generally selfish ans self centred.I was amazed to see the cow shielding her calf and offering herself as the target.A mother is always a mother. The cow ran away out of the garden, but not without covering her little calf behind her body.

@Missmwngi And birds too.I have seen crows driving away kites, vultures and cats from near their nests hitting them with their beaks.
