The California poppies are out now!

In previous posts, I mentioned how the Indian Warrior wildflowers have been out for awhile, and the Indian Paintbrush wildflowers arrived early this year. We've also seen "shooting stars" and several other wildflowers whose names I don't know. On my last hike with a kid client, there were some nice California poppies right near the trail, so I stopped to take a close-up of one, which I'll attach to this post. With all the rain we've had, we're having a long Spring this year, which I'm really enjoying. Are the wildflowers, and other signs of Spring, poking through where you live?

It looks a little what we would call a buttercup. We have an abundance of daffodils, Magnolias and other spring bulbs in bloom. Plus some of the cherry and apple trees are in blossom too!

@TheHorse Sounds lovely but I am afraid you would not get me there because of my fear of snakes!

I have to take a hike to Donner Cabin at the base of Mt. Diablo where several bulbs have been for years.

@softbabe44 Notice how dry the soil was. I took this picture a year or two ago.

The Marguerites and wild mustard are in bloom. I have also seen some wild geraniums and a few California poppies growing near a golf course where some water runs off into a wildlife preserve. We don't get a lot of wild flowers here in Southern California, however, in areas that don't get watered.

@ElizabethWallace - Yes, I suspect we had more rain "back in the day." You should have seen the field of flowers I went horseback riding in this morning. The recent rains brought them all out!

@DeborahDiane I would go out hunting flowers in the hillsides, except the last time I did that, the dust made me sneeze for days.

We used to. When I was a kid, they grew everywhere, but maybe we had more rain then.

Yellow flowers always seem so vibrant. Do you get pink Californian poppies too? Pink ones seem to be more common here.

We may, but I mostly see orange. They're dotting many green hillsides right now.

I am so envious of you having so many wonderful signs of spring in your area. We actually had snow this morning. Waaa. My brother said it is supposed to be around 70 on Friday. I hope so, it is my day off!

Thanks! They're a common flower in the fields and hills in the Spring. Our State Flower, I believe.

The only real sign of spring we have here in New England so far is buds on the trees. The leaves are coming! But then again, we're getting a snow storm tomorrow. All hail spring! lol

We are suffering through the pine pollen and bradford pear tree pollen right now. Haven't seen many flowers yet. Poppies.......always makes me think of "The Wizard Of Oz".

Me too! These don't make you sleeeepy, though. I've been sneezing today. Not sure which pollen is causing it.

Not sure, as I really haven't hiked or done any actual mountain biking. But it did snow yesterday, so they might not be out just yet.

Wow!! You do have eyes where they should go. Beautiful picture and a good camera capture too. For us here in India spring is not something we talk about. It comes slowly without any announcement overlapping with other seasons.

Finally there are the beginnings of Spring. I love the poppies. I've never seen the wild ones up close and personal. We have poppies a bit later in the spring but they are planned and planted.

My lawn is green. It hasn't been for many months. But we no longer have California Poppies growing everywhere, like when I was a child. I remember they filled every possible nook and cranny. Who sang the song?" Where have all the flowers gone, long time passing?" I wish they were still all over. It was glorious to see.
