Could Have Been a Cat Fight

Dusty, our 2 year-old cat loves to go outside to play. She would stay out all day if we let her. On the days I work I let her out and she comes in when I get home. A few days ago she didn't come in when I got home. When I called her to come in that night she didn't show up at the door. Hubby finally got her to come in about an hour after I went to bed. I woke when hubby came to bed. Dusty had found her usual place at my feet and was curled up warm and cozy. When I reached down to pet her I felt some crusty patches on her fur. I turned on the light to see her covered in filth. There were clumps of mud stuck to her. I plucked as much off as I could. When I pet her she mewed like she was in pain. Then I noticed a cut on her ear. There are a lot of cats that roam the area. Some belong to residents of the park, some are feral that people have dropped off. It infuriates me to no end that people can just abandon a cat. Why not take it to the local animal shelter? Dusty will not be allowed to go outside for a while. Perhaps I should try to keep her inside permanently. Doubtful she will like that idea.

That must have been so upsetting to have her gone and then to discover her hurt upon her arrival back home again. I would keep her inside and I would report any strays to the humane society, people need to be more accountable for their pets for the safety of all other pets as well as residents. I hope that Dusty feels better and enjoys staying in now.

When I came home today she was doing much better. She was actually waiting by the door to be let outside. I told her many times that she had to stay inside. LOL. I think she understood because she walked away from the door after I told her no.

Poor Dusty. I'm glad she wasn't more badly hurt. Our little cat didn't like being indoors for too long either. She much preferred being outside.

She keeps going to the door and looks at me with those pleading eyes. I tell her that she can't go out. I believe she seems to know that she is going to be stuck inside. She goes off to her favorite resting spot and lays down.

I'm sure that Dusty would rather run the risk of meeting feral cats than being kept inside.

She was sitting at the door when I came home. It was clear that she wanted to be let out to play.

could have gotten in a scrap with a dog, or a large squirrel or something.

There are no dogs in the park. I haven't seen any dogs wandering about. She actually chases the squirrels in our back yard.

Poor Dusty! I know my son son feels the same way about his two cats and fenced in his yard. He had to catch a mean feral cat nd drop it off in a town far away. This cat was the terror of his neighborhood. I don't know why people would do that to any animal.

There is farm that has many feral cats and they are great for keeping the rodent population down. The farmer also feeds the cats. They are lined up along the walkway to the main house when it is feeding time.

My Baloo loves to fight but he's not as good as he thinks he is. He's got two raggedy ears and he's covered in scratches at the moment.

Ouch! If Benta had been outside she would have put the offending cat in its place. She is my fighter.

Indeed. How can someone just leave a cat?

A cat used to exploring the outdoors will be miserable being stuck inside all the time. Just hope this was a one time thing.

She does love going outside. It won't be easy keeping her inside.
