Unexpected Staycation

United States
March 23, 2016 3:27pm CST
Well, I didn't expect to stay home for two days after having this dang blasted tooth extracted. The oral surgeon wrote a note stating to excuse me for 3 days following the surgery. Now I can understand 1 day, but 3, no. When I handed the note to the scheduler, she seemed a bit ticked off over it. She said that she knew about the appointment for the extraction but not the other excusing me from work for the other 3. I told her I was going to play it by ear. She said that she was just going to schedule me off Wednesday-Thursday (I have Fridays off every week). She said she wasn't going to deal with having to reschedule my clients everyday so it was easier to just do it then. Now, that kind of ticked me off considering that I was willing to work if I could. Today, I was glad to stay home. I slept later than usual. My jaw was bothering me from the inflammation. My face throbbed when I bent over to pick something up. I was also fatigued, I guess from the anesthesia. So, instead of having a 3 day weekend, I have 5 day staycation. Yay me. Thankfully I have earned time to draw upon so I can at least have a paycheck next week.

Why do people have to be such butts? Yeah she was just being spiteful if you ask me.

She has been a little indifferent lately. Maybe it is the addition of job responsibilities that were added onto what she already felt was too much.

@TiarasOceanView it shouldn't trickle over on those that she works with. I have problems with that.

Best to take the time off and heal, plus why not enjoy it

I am feeling better. The jaw doesn't throb so much, and yes, I have enjoyed the timeoff.

That's a good thing. It sounds like you needed those days from your description of pain at the moment.

It was more a problem last night. But now it is throbbing. I'll take some ibuprofen shortly to alleviate the swelling.

@just4him Still swollen today. I have pain just below my cheekbone. The ibuprofen helps with the swelling and it alleviates the pain somewhat.

Your scheduler seems a bit harsh. It's not like you had too many options. I hope your face recovers quickly so it will be a staycation rather than a recuperation.

I know. She was a bit caustic when she read the notes and I said that I would be happy to play it by ear and call in if I felt I needed to stay home. She refused to let me do that. I'll bet she complained about it to the other office staff after I left. Can't please them all.

I had to have a tooth extracted right before Christmas and I definitely needed quite a few days to recover. There was so much I needed to be careful of so I didn't get a dry socket, and even for the holiday I couldn't eat normal food. So while people might think even 3 days is a bit excessive, it really is not. If we have problems with our mouth, there's a lot we cannot do. Heal well. :)

I get a lot of people saying that it was crazy that I stay home for just having a tooth pulled. It is still quite swollen today. The socket is filled in though so I won't need to worry about dry socket. Never had that, but I have heard horror stories about it. I still can't eat everything. Lots of soft foods are now the norm for a while.

they give you those days for a reason, very few people don't need them. and pushing yourself can make you get worse, not better, so rest, take ice and meds and feel better!

the "aftershocks" when the effect of anesthesia is gone, the pain is unbearable, with the throbbing from inflammation adds up
