Our special recipe this week is-yep, you guessed it-Jam! Blueberry jam to be exact. Making the jam was fairly easy but the "canning" part not so easy as I don't have the proper equipment. We did manage to get it done and in the jars. Right now the jars are cooling and then I'll check to see if they seal properly. I told Leah if they don't we'll be eating a lot of jam really quickly before it goes bad!
If it works out I may go ahead and buy the proper canning supplies and learn how to do it the right way. I would like to try other jams and jellies along with some different types of foods.

@irishidid LOL. I was only asking because I have never tried it myself, but my family use to do it all the time. Sometime they used the canning equipment and sometimes they didn't. Honestly if you followed the directions you will have just as much success rate as using that canning pot. I remember a couple of jars not sealing with it. We always had to eat them first. LOL

We always put jam into hot glass jars. The lids were two layers of brown paper and the glue a paste of flour and water. The jam lasted over twelve months and sometimes longer. Half the secret to long-lasting jam is in the cooking I think.

Never heard of that kind of lid. I know my mom used paraffin wax but I didn't use it.

@irishidid This was many years ago. No-one would do it that way now.

If you get the seals on right then you can freeze jam for up to 6 months. Good luck hope it all goes well.
