I've seen the movie a couple times and watched it again tonight to compare to the book I just finished. No comparison.
As I've seen before with the other books I've read, followed by the movie, the movie appears to be a trailer for the book.
The Order of the Phoenix is 870 pages and I've been told there are some among you who have read this book in a matter of days. My son read it in one day. I don't know how he did that. I'm a slow reader, it took me a couple months to read it.
However, the book is a page turner and hard to put down. Harry and his cousin are set upon by dementors at the beginning of the book, and Harry performs a patronis curse in the presence of a muggle. Whereupon Harry must attend a hearing for practicing under-age sorcery and could find himself expelled from Hogwarts.
There are a lot of twists and turns in this story, and you really find yourself hating Professor Umbridge with every fiber of your being, right from the very moment she appears in the hearing.
This story has everything - giants, centaurs, and the Weasly twins up to their own high jinx. And you cannot leave out the main character - Lord Voldemort.
How Professor Umbridge goes from being the Undersecretary of the Ministry to a lowly professor of the Dark Arts, to High Inquisitor, to Headmistress and demoted and thrust from Hogwarts is in itself worth reading.
Author J.K. Rowling is at her best as usual in this book that takes you from #4 Privet Drive to #12 Grimmauld Place to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.
Harry Potter isn't alone as he faces Lord Voldemort - his friends - Ron and Hermione, along with Neville Longbottom, Ginny Weasly, Cho Chang, and Luna Lovegood all back him up.
It's a great book and I give it a thumb's up and 5 stars. If you have only watched the movies, I highly recommend you read the books. There is so much more for you to experience.
Thanks for reading.

You've just reminded me that I have the full collection of Harry Potter books (hard bound) in a chest and I really don't want to bring them with me. I'm going to see if any of my friends want them. Great reads. And yes, all were so much better than the movies! Have you read any of the Hunger Games books or the Divergent books? I loved those, too!

I have seen the movies, but I never been interested in reading the books. Chris was more into Harry Potter than I am.

@JESSY3236 Stephen King is a great author, but I won't read his books. I don't need the nightmares they engender.

@just4him I think he read the first one. I don't know about the rest. He's a slow reader. Right now he has been reading Stephen King books. He has been reading The Stand.

My son has them all. I plan to read them one day. The first book was charming.
