RSVP for Pete's Sake!

Well, actually, Pete has nothing to do with it, but just let me know if you'll be coming or not!!!
Sent out an invitation for a party to celebrate my granddaughter's first birthday. I plan on renting the community room at a local firehouse to hold the party.
My place will hold about 10 people, comfortably. My daughter's place is quite small and there are a dozen stairs to her apartment, so my mother would not be able to get up and down them.
All I asked was that people let me know if they were able to be there or not. If the numbers are small I will have it at my place and not have to spend the money to rent the firehouse. I stated that as well.
So far only 2 people have responded. One said "maybe." Planning a party is easy enough if you know how many will be in attendance. Going at it blindly is frustrating. Makes you wonder if they truly understand what RSVP means.
When you receive an invitation to an event it is important to respond quickly so that those planning the event can tie up the loose ends. I always check my calendar, and respond when I receive the invitation. That way you can't "forget" to do it. It is a good practice to abide by.
How quickly do you respond to invitations? Do you toss it aside and forget?

That is very good of you to do that. I have had people say, oh yes, I forgot. I'll let you know soon and still no response.

@simone10 I have heard back from a couple of people, but still have over 2/3 of the people to respond. Wow.

@ElusiveButterfly I can understand how people can be busy but it doesn't take much time at all to respond.

since she is 1 and wont remember,I'd pick a resaurant she likes, tell everyone where and when, and just have fun, some places will even save you a table and let you decorate. I remember a party like that at MCD near the ballpit, lol, kids seemed to love it

We will probably do the McDonald's birthday party when she gets a little older. Because earlier birthday parties are mostly for the adults to see how much the little cherub has grown and to show off what cute little toys or outfits they got her. And it is a good excuse to get together in a large group and see people we haven't seen in a while. LOL.

@Jessicalynnt I already have enough people attending to have it at the community hall at the firehouse. My daughter is responsible for the food and grab bags for the kids. I am making the cake. Keeping it simple.

@ElusiveButterfly then I'd deff do a restaurant, just one with an area off to the side, OR do it an odd time, like before dinner rush

It's only good manners to respond quickly. I've planned my share of parties and understand how important it is to RSVP.

I recall a few people who planned a couple of parties and were complaining that they didn't get any responses from those invited to their party. Bit my tongue but thought to myself "how does it feel?"

Some don't bother to respond at all and just show up. That isn't fair to those planning the event.

My husband and I have hosted lots of parties, here at our home as well as at a rented hall, and it is imperative that those that are invited RSVP by a certain date. I get after them by picking up the phone and calling, you need it for the location but also for the food. Good luck, I hope that they get back to you soon.

I also call when I don't hear from them. Today I sent a text to those that didn't respond, just in case they forgot about responding.

I have had to wait a week or more to reply due to work requirements. Have to submit a day off request and then possibly find someone to work my hours. I let the host know that I may have to decline depending on work.

I agree Alfredo. It is just common courtesy to do so.
