Nowadays, it is normal for people to purchase and drink bottled water. We have different types of bottled water. We have flavored ones, we have distilled water, oxygenated water, mineral water, and all sorts of bottled water that claim to have a good number of vitamins and minerals that give certain health benefits. At home or in restaurants, people prefer bottled water over 'regular' tap water. In other cases, bottled water turn out more expensive that a can of soda or a glass of juice. What gives? If you told me twenty years ago that I would need to buy and pay for water, I would have been skeptical. I would even have called you crazy but it is the reality right now. We drink and buy bottled water. Come to think of it, let's not take this 'simple' product for granted. As much as we enjoy all the different versions of bottled water that we have, let's not forget that there is a good percentage of people in other parts of the world who have no access to clean and potable water. They rely on rain water or sometimes walk for hours to get water from streams and rivers. The water that they use for cleaning, bathing, and washing is the same water that they use for cooking and drinking. Next time you gulp on your bottled water, think about that.

I am not a drinker of bottled water, if I can at all avoid it. I drink several liters of tap water every day, and have no need to pay for a bottled version of the same thing. I do not like the flavoured waters at all, and resent that many of them have added sweeteners in them. I am a fan of carbonated water, but I don't often drink it anymore. (One of these days I may get one of those soda fountains so I can make my own.) I also love to drink real spring water - but only fresh from the spring. I won't buy it bottled, unless it's locally sourced and I know the landowner. I think those who buy bottled water should consider carrying a refillable bottle or cup, and take advantage of free drinking fountains or other sources of potable water. They really are in a lot more places than most people think, and it's better for the environment to refill than to recycle the plastic.

@Ruby3881 no pipe. The deep well is in our backyard we can get water anytime. Almost every household here has their own well

At my hometown we get water from a deep well but in Manila and other cities in the Philippines that is their only best option to buy.

@AkoPinay Is there not a reliable source of tap water in the cities? It must be lovely to drink straight from the well. But do you have the water piped in, or must you go to collect it at the well? We spent several weeks one summer at the home of a friend in cottage country, up in the Laurentian Mountains of Quebec. Water there was piped in from the lake for bathing and washing the dishes, but for drinking and cooking people would go to a sort of fountain in the town square, that was built over a spring. They could fill up their jugs free of charge, and bring the water back home to drink. It was really good water.

We can't drink our water at home as we have well water and not good for drinking. We buy bottle water and we also have a water dispenser we use too.

Drinking bottled water is the norm now. I doubt if we ever go back to drinking water from a well.

We really should be more thankful for what we have rather than seeking things we do not have.

I have thought about it way back when people were complaining about oil price hike back in the mid 90s. They were complaining how expensive a liter of gasoline is but never thought about buying water when it used to be FREE! Anyway, it's not only water that's for sale now, clean air is being sold nowadays in different varieties too. Valley air, mountain, air, swiss air!
