What Summer Means to Me

United States
April 2, 2016 6:57am CST
Hazy, hot and humid means summer is here, Cookouts in the backyard with lots of cold beer. Burgers on the grill just a tad overcooked, Vacations being researched, planned and booked. Beaches are crowded as bodies bronze in the sun, By the end of the day a few will be well-done. Ice cream stands along the boardwalk do a brisk trade, Grab a handful of napkins and you'll have it made. It's t-shirt, shorts and flip-flops galore, They are comfy to wear, you don't need much more. Lounge by the pool and enjoy a fresh lemonade, When you've had enough sun head into the shade. Jersey tomatoes ripening on the vine, The sweet corn is coming along just fine. Fresh fruits and veggies adorn the dinner table, Come over and share a meal when you're able. The sky opens up with storms every day, Dampening the earth and everything in its way. When the rain finally stops and the sun peeks through, You'll see a rainbow, and that's good luck for you. Summer doesn't last forever; I know that is true, It's my favorite season and just between me and you. I'll enjoy every moment that is given to me, If summer lasted all year round how wonderful that would be! That pretty much sounds like my summer. And the ice cream place down the road from me just opened this week for the season so i'm excited.

We have a new ice cream place in town, but they sell ice cream brand that I don't care for.

I like your poem. I can hardly wait for summer to come to enjoy the outside more. Grilling on the barbecue.

Summer means swimming, ice cream, picnics and mangoes...Yeah during summer, mangoes are very cheap, you could even them for free.

This is wonderful. I can see myself on the boardwalk at Carolina Beach on a summer day as I read your poem.

@AbbyGreenhill K and I plan to cover the state from coast to mountains over the course of the summer. What part of our great state will you be visiting?

@DWDavis Maggie Valley. I have always wanted to visit Waynesville due to a well known bakery there. But for the last 9 years we went to the cost of SC. Now that we aren't doing that we like to stay within 3-4 hour ride so Maggies Valley, next to Waynesville, works. I like looking at the Smoky Mountains from the NC side once in a while.

Cute poem about summer. I prefer the Spring now. Summers get too hot for me.

Wonderful poem. I love the summers here in SC even though they are hot and sticky. There's nothing better than a day at the beach.
