Reason to hate Arizona

Besides the heat and the red light runners I think the biggest thing to hate about Arizona is the concept of septic tanks. If you don't know what a septic tank is, basically it is a thing in the backyard in the ground filled with well...human waste. For some reason Phoenix, I am not sure if all of Arizona but Phoenix did not want to pick up the fad of doing sewers. No, no, instead they make people spend 200-500 dollars to get their waste removed from their back yards. What if you are a person that does not have that kind of money to spare or can even save up? The fumes can make people sick and can even be lethal...it is bacteria in the air. My mom cannot afford to get it cleaned out and I don't have a job and have to keep my money saved for a future move. So basically we just have to suffer with a smell that plumbs the air and get sick from it. It is seriously so terrible and I hate it.

They make people pay for their own septic tanks to be emptied...That is disgusting and terrible. So if people cannot afford to get it emptied they basically sit in the smell of their own waste.

What? I had no idea my friend!!!
I know what a septic tank is..why or why are they creating this terrible health hazard for people..I must go and read more about this..omg..I am sorry you are suffering like this.
How often do you need this money you say every two months?
This is uncivilized on the part of the state and federal govt.

There isn't an agency that could help out with the expense? Not sure where you who in your area to ask for help.

I lived in east Mesa and not many tanks out there and not that expensive to clean them.

Many many many people have septic tanks in my area. It is the west side of Phoenix. And also getting a septic tank cleaned out is very expensive no matter who you call. We tried, and no one does it under 300 dollars.

@Marcyaz That's Mesa XD that isn't Phoenix. Each city doesn't different things. more congested areas of pheonix hav a sewer system but that is more towards down town. Where has closer to peoria they don't because that is not a lot of peopl.e And it is expensvive when you don't have a job and live off very little money. i.e. my mother. she is disabled and doesn't get a lot of money each month.

There's an old septic system here but I don't know what it is. It's probably a leech field since I have never known it to be emptied and it works fine with no smell. There's a pipe next to the house where I'm sure it can be sucked out, but I only found that last year. My old apartment was the same way.
If you want to try anything you should dump that bacteria solution down your toilet and let them work on it. That should cut down on the smell. I can't imagine a system being small enough that it would need to be emptied so regularly.

@DesirousDreamer Try not to put certain cleaners in the mix, since it kills good bacteria.

@OneOfMany trust me I look things up before I do. I don't feel like blowing up my house or putting out toxic fumes to prevent already toxic fumes

Ok, I get why you don't like septics but didn't you plant trees close to the leach lines to keep it from getting that bad?

Does your septic tank not empty into a septic bed (tiles)? We have a septic tank with a raised bed. When it gets waterlogged after a lot of rain it means our water doesn't drain properly for a few hours, but odour isn't a problem.

our septic tank is buried in the backyard. There is a big black tube sticking out in the middle of the yard for when we actually do have someone clean they just stick a pipe into and suck it up.

@DesirousDreamer it sounds like just a holding tank and not a full septic system.

@Morleyhunt Well I have no idea since I'm not the one that put it in and I'm not the one that owns the home. I don't know the difference. I guess that is why we have to get it cleaned out ever few months.

Eww. when we had our summer house (here in Rhode Island), we had a septic tank. We never really noticed it much until, of course, it backed up. So gross!

@DesirousDreamer That was the one thing I hated about spending summers there. I've seen the house since. It's been sold quite a few times since we left and I really don't know if that problem has been fixed or not. But I hope so for the new inhabitants.

It is super disgusting. I am happy I do not have to deal with that anymore. I moved, but I feel bad for my mom who has to put up with it. I hope she can afford to clean it soon.

We live in CA and have a septic tank. Doesn't make a difference to me just means I don't have to pay a sewer bill every month. Not to mention we have lived here for 9 years and haven't had an issue.

Well i guess if you have money to get it emptied then it isn't a problem OR if you live in a place that has a landlord that empties it for you.

If your mother is renting the house then it is the landlords duty to have that cleaned out. Check under the landlord tenants law for Arizona and check it out.
