Have You Seen How Fast Food Workers Prepare Your Burgers?

My wife and I do not eat in Fast Food restaurants very often. If we have to, we go to A&W. Why? Have you ever noticed how kitchen people in your favorite fast food restaurants prepare/cook your burgers? All of them use gloves. Of course, the reason why they put on sanitary gloves is to keep your burgers clean and germ-free. Wonderful! One day I was watching two young fast food workers in one of the leading fast food restaurants preparing burgers and other fast foods while waiting for my order. O, they worked fast and they TOUCHED everything in the kitchen aside from the foods they were preparing! How clean are the burgers we eat?! Disclaimer: I am not advertising fast food restaurant A&W.

If they are not wearing gloves than the food is not all that good to eat.

@story07 What is the point of wearing gloves when they still touch and hold everything in the kitchen?!

@antonbunot How about when the server prepares the food with the gloves on and then handle the cash and goes back to prepare more foods with the same gloves?

This comment is true, you must wear gloves in foods preparation there is no if or maybe in the kitchen I find that not like at home even from grill or oven you have to wear gloves and clean your areas well, if not you'll lose your customers very soon and then what,...." your boss will not like it" (guessed yet?) Yes, I'm a prep/cook myself!

I am very confused. Why does that not make any sense to me? Am I retarded/idiotic or you have not phrased it right?

@antonbunot "O, they worked fast and they TOUCHED everything in the kitchen aside from the foods they were preparing!" I went over this more than once but still can't make any sense out of it whatsoever. Help me please.

@Cristi_Ichim . . Okay, what is the use of wearing gloves when they still touch and hold everything in the kitchen including their noses? Got the point?

It's good that in popular burger stand near my house, the crew not only wear gloves but they also use tongs when preparing food, since the stand is a small foldable type, you can see exactly what they are doing. Another thing is they wear gowns, aprons and hairnets

@antonbunot You have a very good point there, the tongs can also be easily sterilized by passing over a flame

The use of tongs is a good way to prepare burgers and other fast foods. Our hands even if covered with gloves touch and hold everything in the kitchen including dirty rags.

Health rules vary from place to place. We are not required to wear gloves to assemble your burger. We do have disposable gloves for raw meat that get thrown out after every run. We have a timer that tells us to wash our hands every thirty minutes. If we accidentally touch fish, lobster or anything that might be contaminated we are supposed to go wash our hands before doing anything else. I wash my hands a lot and I can go through an awful lot of those gloves during the course of a shift.

@antonbunot In Atlantic Canada we serve the McLobster during the summer. The owner of my location is the inventor and the money he got from that creation bought him the franchise.

All Fast food workers should learn from you! But you don't work in a Fast food restaurant as there are no lobsters served in Burger King and MacDo!

I remember working at Taco Bell and we had to wear gloves back then. However today, I do not see them wearing them. I think it should be a practice in all food if possible.

Yes that's right what you say, they would need to change the gloves often and be aware otherwise it's just as bad as not wearing them at all

@Vjvals Even if they keep changing their gloves if they keep touching and holding dirty things other than the foods they are preparing - - they are filling up the burgers with germs.

I have a nephew that worked at a giant burger chain and he told us that they used to have a 30 second rule--ugh!

@antonbunot No, the 30 second rule pertains to food still being considered edible after it falls on the floor and sits there for that amount of time.

Unless they keep changing their gloves there is no way that germs don't get onto them.

I am sure our burgers are not as clean as they look when served, my dear Julito. I've seen how a crew made my burger. He was wearing gloves all right, but he touched everything including the money I paid for the burger AND the coins he gave me back! Yuck!

I just had a chance to observe the fast food workers at work yesterday evening. I was there for an ice cream cone, and I had to wait 5 minutes for it. There were more than 12 kitchen staff at work. They had no time to do anything else except their assigned work. One had to manage the fries, no time else for anything. I guess that is due to the peak hour, so having a grand total of 20 staff at work means nobody has to leave their assigned work area.

@sallypup Well, I am not sure either about what is actually going on in the kitchens of non-fast-foods restaurants . . especially Chinese buffet restaurants. But I am sure most of them are tired and unhappy. What do we expect from tired and unhappy cooks?!

It isn't just a fast food joint which is probably more sanitary due to high volume and heat. Who knows what goes on in any restaurant kitchen and that includes 5 star places. Remember when "glue steaks" were revealed as being served in expensive reataurants?

I try not to eat at fast food places because the food is bad for us and in my home town and in my state they do not always wear gloves. Especially at McDonald's they don't wear gloves and I know that the majority of people don't wash their hands when they go to the bathroom even though they are supposed to. If I eat fast food I try to only eat at Chick-Fil-A because the food is high quality, the place is clean, and they always wear gloves.
