Do You Go for Morel Mushrooms?

United States

I've eaten morel mushrooms. I've eaten morel mushrooms that I've gathered and cooked. They are just about the easiest mushroom to properly identify I know of. They appear in the first half or so of April. An easy way to remember that is, they pop up just about tax time. A handful of miles away, there is an abandoned home my friends and I call The Morel Motel. Well in a matter of days, we're going to "check in." Last year we harvested a half a 5-gallon bucket full of the things. Not impressive? Well, consider they can go for $500.00 per pound. No tell me you are not impressed. http://www.rakuten.com/prod/morel-mushrooms-dried-1-bag-1-lb/288874320.html

I have never eaten a Morel mushroom but would probably like it. I read online that they are a little early this year.

That is good to know. I'd better check in the next few days.

That is almost as expensive as truffles not affordable to just anyone unless they are as lucky as you to have found them yourself

I've never had truffles. But then I've never had caviar. Oh, I was offered the raw fish gametes. I want neither of these things. I'm convinced that most specialty items or "delicacies" are just things people have made up their mind are good or are showing off like they're doing something because they are "sophisticated."

@Bunny28 Actually, I like tripe in the form of Philadelphia Pepper Pot soup.

@KuznVinny lol with some things i feel that way. However tripe is considered a delicacy and its cheap to make just not always easy if you don't know what it is and have never used it before. I couldn't imagine paying so much money for a mushroom no matter how rare it may be the cost is just too much.

I'm impressed. Haven't found a place that they grow around here. When I do, I'm not telling anybody!
