What a Morning!

I got up this morning and fixed breakfast, loaded the dishwasher and turn it on. Then I fired up my computer. I received an email from my cellphone provider saying my debt card had rejected my payment. I never trust emails so I called my provider. Sure enough, my card was rejected. I check the money in my account and there was plenty of money. Then I checked to see if somehow my debt card information wasn’t up to date. All looked good. I did this while I was on hold. When the woman answered I told her there was no reason for the card to be rejected. She asked if I had just had a direct deposit made because the request may have come in before the deposit was made. I told her no. So she wanted my debt card number to double check to see if there were any mistakes at their end. It was fine. So she asked if I wanted her to try the card again. I told her yes, please. Within a couple of seconds she said, “It went through now.” She figured there must have been a glitch. She said if anyone else called with the same problem then she would know that there must have been a glitch. Well, it could have been at my bank and if that was the case then there would have been very few problems. Anyway it’s all straightened out now.

That's happened to us - all was good in the account, but the amount to automatically pay the bill would not process. In our case it happened because we forgot to tell them we got new cards. Either we had reported lost cards, or there was fraudulent activity going on so we had to close out the last card - then we simply forgot to inform other companies of it! Good that yours was only a glitch and all is well again!!

@RichardMeister I guess that's the first thing most of us would think of too - that someone hacked the system and got to our money ! But thank goodness it wasn't that - that would be a nightmare.

@much2say It certainly would have been a nightmare. I check my bank account nearly every day just in case there are unauthorized withdraws.

My first thought was someone wiped out my bank account. I thought that because I had enough money in my account to more than cover the bill. My second thought was maybe I forgot to add money spent in my Quicken. Then I realized that wouldn't have been the problem since the bank would have moved the money out of my savings to pay the bill. Until I got a look at my bank account and found I wasn't wiped out I was quite nervous. Then when I found my bank account was intact I was really scratching my head on what went wrong. It was a big relieve to find not one made off with my money. That would have been a much harder mess to get out of.

Good to know that it got straightened out. These glitches can throw a monkey wrench even in the best laid plans.

Yes, I would have had to come up with another way of paying the bill.

I'm glad everything worked out. I'm sure you were stunned when they claimed the transaction didn't go through. Your day didn't start our so well but all went well afterwards.

I was stunned when the transaction didn't go through. My first thought was someone got into my bank account and cleaned me out. I breathed a big sigh of relief when I found that was not true. My second thought was the banks monitoring company must have blocked the transaction for some reason (I had checks blocked once until I verified I wrote the checks because on the particular day I wrote out more checks than I usually do). Anyway in the end all worked out.

Scary stuff. So hard to know these days if somebody is messing with your information and charging up huge bills. I'm glad you straightened that out.
