Take nothing for granted

Recently I lost my new glasses after only having them for a few weeks. I very seldom wear them for long and have been known to take them off at work or a friend’s place and leave them behind. I had been to a house wedding the previous week so when the bride and groom returned home I asked them if they had seen my wayward glasses. ‘Oh yes,’ was the reply, ‘they are in our lounge room waiting for their owner to claim them’. It was good to know they were somewhere safe and I could stop searching. The next evening my friend brought the glasses and handed them to my son as I wasn’t home. Unfortunately when I looked they weren’t mine at all, which seemed puzzling to me, after all how many people go around leaving glasses behind. Apparently it isn’t just me. I returned the glasses and hopefully they were reunited with their real owner. Then my son suggested I have a proper look for mine. Good idea I thought and started with my car. I’m ashamed to say I found them in five minutes, they had fallen under the car seat. Now the lost has been found I have determined to look after them more carefully. My son bought me a chain to wear around my neck. So far, I haven’t used that, but I may have to in the future. If only I had asked my friend to describe the glasses she had found in her home it would have saved a lot of bother. It’s a lesson learned.

Oh goodness, how funny. I can't read at all without mine, so I have several cheaper pairs dotted about the house and in various handbags. I never could get on with a chain around my neck.

It's pretty easy to lose our glasses if we have the habit of constantly taking them off.

I leave mine lying around a lot because I don't need them all the time. However I do need them for driving so it would be quite a problem if I lost them. Fortunately it hasn't happened to me yet because I'm very careful about where I put them.

@glenniah I can also be quite forgetful. That's why I try to be careful about where I leave my glasses.

I remember buying my Mum a chain to wear around her neck with her glasses on. I know immediately if I try to operate without mine - which might be a good thing. At least they go missing too often.

@glenniah I can understand about the no chain. I don't have a chain but my glasses are never off for any length of time.

I should wear my specs all the time, but I need a couple of pairs as I am forever leaving them laying around.

With the cost of buying a new pair that should get you to keep track of them.
