While in Costa Rica I decided to pick up some flower seeds and TRY to start my own tropical flower right at home in the Midwest, crazy right?
After reading many blogs and endless You tube watching, I figured I would just go for it. The package stated it had 10 seeds in it and when I opened it there was only 5 crappy. So I didn't want to waste all my seeds, I decided to only plant 2 seeds just in case.
Minnesota is known for its frigid temperatures but after seeing some success stories in the Midwest, you never know.
I planted one seed in one biodegradable container, so I have to pots sitting on my porch and I wrapped the container in which the pots are sitting in clear plastic wrap. Trying to mimic a green house effect. My porch is usually the hottest spot in my house.
I guess this particular flower has many uses and apparently you can obtain fruit from it, not sure where I see that in the picture here.
After 2 weeks I have not seen a sprout, but I am super anxious because If I can pull this off I will no longer have the green thumb curse.

Oh I hope it grows for you Cassandra!
Do let us know and take pics as it grows if you can.
Would love to see how it fairs in your climate.
Must have been lovely Puerto Rico..never been my friend.
That is a cool photo flower.

I wish I was back there, the only thing I didn't like in Costa Rica was everything was 3 hours away, anything cool that is and the roads were tiny. I thought New York drivers were bad and scary.
I will be taking pictures "If" it grows

@Castlerock34 Passiflora has a chemical in the seed to keep germination slow. Keep the soil wet, but do not soak, it will take time, but it should germinate. Good luck.

@LadyDuck I check on it every day and there is always condensation in the "green house". So I dont water it every day because it always is moist in there. I am trying to be patient but its hard. Thank you for your advise :-)

I have a green thumb as it turns out. For the last three months I've successfully planted plants by simply planting the stems and sometimes the leaves only. good luck on your plant, don't quit be patient.

I seem to kill every plant I try to grow. I have killed 3 Bonsais and I thought those things were hard to kill. I am also trying my luck with a cherry blossom tree by seed so well see what happens with that too

I like to try and grow seeds too, but lots of times, plants die when I try to plant. I jokingly tell people I am no green thumb. I have a black thumb, ha ha.

you and I are very similar then lol. You would think growing plants isnt that hard all you have to do is water them and make sure they get the appropriate sun right...I seem to mess it up all the time

i've toyed with the idea'f plantin' me some's well. though i dunno where i'd put't durin' the winter coz i've already so many plants to tend indoors then.

The flowers (above) look like an orchid. I was born and lived half of my life in the Philippines . . and what I want to grow here in our backyard (Canada) are coconuts!
