A Nice Quote To Live By

Steven Covey said: “Live out of your imagination, not your history.” I think a lot of people that I know personally, spend a lot of time thinking about what has already happened in their lives, and unfortunately, they dwell on that so much that they can’t imagine what their future COULD be. You can’t go back and change the past. You can’t change one small minute. It’s over and forever gone, No matter how you spent it. I wrote those words in a much longer poem, years ago. It has become my “MOTTO” in life. What do you think?

You wrote it well and you are absolutely correct. It is just hard for me at the moment because I do tend to dwell on the past, especially this day, as I really wish I could go back to this particular day 25 years ago, and do a particular thing totally different. I can't get into details here about it. I hope God is not sad with me to think this, but I honestly don't feel guilty thinking I wish I could change it.

@IreneVincent That is exactly right, the youth need to realize the consequences of their choices they make.

I'm sure that there are many people who would like to change some things they did or didn't do in their past. That's why its so important for young people to think of the consequences of the choices they make.

@LeaPea2417 The consequences are what the young ones need to think about first. They need to ask themselves: "What will happen if I do this?"

@Castlerock34 My grandson told me just yesterday that there was a pregnant girl in the eighth grade and now there is one in the ninth grade, that he sees every day in class. He is in the ninth grade and just turned 15 years old.

@Castlerock34 Yes, it's that way in a lot of high schools, I understand. I saw a program on TV where these young girls WANTED to get pregnant and then later were so sorry that they had made that choice, because of the responsibilities that come after the baby is born. Their entire lives were changed. Some gave their babies up for adoption. Some kept their babies but learned the hard way, what a HUGE responsibility they NOW had, and how their lives had changed from being care-free to VERY complicated. And then some of them, just let their parents take the responsibility, which is so UNFAIR.

I do look toward the future and I know I can't change the past. I can think about it but I don't let it take over my life.

I think that high schools should offer a special class about "choices" and "consequences." Because, so many young people who aren't mature enough to consider the consequences of their actions, bring a lot of pain and misery to their lives and the lives of their parents. It's sad.

That's right. The only thing you can do about your past, is to apologize to anyone you may have hurt along the way.

@crazyhorseladycx I have heard that more than once. That some people just keep dwelling on the past and making their lives miserable. So many people are suffering from depression and anxiety.

Yes, a person has to move ON, because they certainly can't move BACK into the past.

I think you're right - in fact I know you're right but sometimes it can be hard to get rid of the demons of the past.

Yes, I'm sure it can be difficult. I know of a couple people who think that since they "ruined" their lives, doing something stupid, that now they have no hope for a better future, but on the other hand, there are those that are determined to clean up their lives and improve their lives. Some have made some really BIG changes and a lot of them have turned to the Bible, which offers hope to those who have made mistakes in their pasts. The Bible is full of examples and good advice.

Life's lessons are sometimes very cruel. But, a smart person can AVOID most of the trials that persons sometimes have to face. All they have to do is MAKE BETTER CHOICES.
