If you want a good corkscrew... go to the grocery store.

Our cruddy old corkscrew is broken. The good one we used to have, gone. I went to Target to get a new corkscrew. Picked one out online, then sent it to store for pickup - I did that so I could use an online only gift card, when I don't have a smartphone to display it on. It's a workaround. Ten dollars for a corkscrew. It looked good and hefty. When I went to the store, though, I discovered it was half made of plastic! Only the handles were made of metal. So I'm going to return it and buy more cat food instead. When I went to the grocery store, I found another cork screw. It was all metal construction, and well made. The price? $3.99. Lesson learned! I'll go to the grocery store!

You couldn't use that gift card in the store? I've used them in the store. I printed it out and showed it to the clerk. I have one for Home Depot right now.

It says right on it, "do not use printed card, display on smartphone or use online." With as silly as the people at this Target are, I wasn't going to push my luck. I still got it to work though, so I'm proud! I'll be able to get a full refund for the bottle opener.

@Rohvannyn Oh. I know I had a bit of trouble at Walmart with a coupon cause I printed it out and she said it was not good cause it could not be copied. She did something or other and I got my dollar off turkey sausage. I took a printed gift card to PetCo and got 25.00 off Sally's food. Guess I'd better keep an eye out on each card. Did you have trouble with the Home Depot one?

@sallypup I haven't used it yet, but I'll use the same technique - pay online, pick up at the customer service counter.

Sounds like a good choice. Mine is all metal.

Well, you seem like a gentleman of good sense and taste! The less plastic in my kitchen, the better.

Not a bad idea. I have had two OXO corkscrews, heavy duty metal that broke in about a year of use.

The ten dollar one was an OXO... half plastic.

I'm glad you found one that you can use. I wouldn't trust plastic either.
