Lessons From My Past

Life is your best teacher. There are some things that you just can't learn from a book. Or, maybe you could, but random facts do not stick in your head like your own experiences. I guess I am a hands on learner. Some things life has taught me: 1. Never use a rubber spatula on a charcoal grill. 2. Mouthwash adds beautiful color, but terrible taste to cake frosting. 3. Bologna burns a lot faster in the microwave. 4. Rubbing alcohol is NOT a good hair astringent to use in the shower. 5. A 220 electricity jolt is a zillion times worse than a 110. What life lessons have you learned?

Never drink orange juice after brushing your teeth with minty toothpaste. Never wear dark colored clothing when cleaning with bleach.

Good ones. That orange juice tastes horrific after brushing, doesn't it!

I am sure I learned hundreds of lessons from real life but can't think of only one right now. Never leave butter in a frying pan alone and go into another room. That was one I learned early in my married life and never forgot.

Pretty funny and I only learn the hard way. I can easily relate to this and also a hands on learner myself. Need more teachings in that area. The problem is that way is also more expensive and you know what happens when that happens. It is not really expensive in the long run, but people want results now. It is actually way cheaper because people get taught right from one costly mistake. Instead of the cheaper mistakes that cost a fortune in the long run and people are still not the wiser for it.

Some of those are pretty funny–mouthwash in cake frosting? What would ever persuade anyone to do that? If you've been zapped by 110 volts you ought to know doubling the voltage would really knock your sock off–literally. Here's something I learned by being told rather than experiencing it. If you are going to have a bonfire, never throw gas on it to get it going. Instead always use diesel or kerosine. Gas ignites so fast the flame with go right up into the container causing it to explode. Even though diesel or kerosine will ignite fast, they will not ignite that fast. (Diesel and kerosine is basically the same thing.)

@cindiowens You're lucky to be alive. Here's another one I learned by watching a dog do it. Never whiz on an electric fence. Poor doggy must have yelped for half an hour.

The color was lovely, but the mint was not exactly what I was looking for, lol. Yeah, tried the gas on a fire thing once. That's all it took.

Good that you are alive to tell us all Mine are mostly to do with emotions. I have learnt never to expect a thank you for favours done. Never expect a prolonged relationship with those who now have their own family.

Check to make sure the chimney will draw before you try to build a fire in the fireplace. Never pour oil into the carburetor of a lawnmower.
