We Tied A 162 Year Old Record

Yesterday we tied a 162 year old record. It hit seventy-eight degrees Fahrenheit (25.5º C). That is the hottest it’s been in this area on April 8th, since 1854. The normal average temperature for this time of the year here is about fifty-five degrees Fahrenheit (13º C).
Even though it’s cooling down to the normal temperature, I think we are headed for another hot summer. Last summer was either the second or third hottest summer we have had in this area since they started keeping records. I had (and still do) high hopes that this summer would be cooler–at least a normal summer.
The scientists have been telling us this old earth is getting hotter and hotter. One of my friends told me this is what happens just before going into an ice age.
Which would you rather see–it be hot enough to literally fry an egg on the sidewalk or for it to be so cold it will freeze a well-diggers butt off?
I know, what kind of nonsense question is that? We would all like it to stay within the two and not become either one.

When its hot, we wish for cold. When its cold we wish for hot. I like about 80 F. It would suit me fine for it to be that temp all the time.

That's a good all-the-time temperature.

At this moment I am feeling pretty lucky that we have had showers for a couple or so days now . . . this kind of weather hasn't happened in a LONG time. But I know it's "not enough" and most likely we are headed towards another hot one - if not hotter. We've actually had cooler summers - but it gets hotter towards August/September. Yah, I've been reading our planet is warming up too (seems a lot of things around the world have bloomed rather early this year). Well you already know I can't handle freezing my butt off. But certainly I wouldn't want to live in an oven either!

@RichardMeister Crazy, isn't it? Today the showers seemed to have stopped. It's not completely sunny, but it's not cold. I don't think we have any more rain coming this week.

They are forecasting rain coming in next week with a cool down. Right now it's 11:30 pm and it's still hotter than our normal high for this time of the year.

@much2say We must be on a big merry-go-round. When we are having rainy weather you must be on the hot, sunny side. When we are having nice sunny weather then you must be on the rainy side.

I heard somewhere that this was expected to be the hottest year ever, so you shouldn't hold too much hope of a cooler summer. We've just been through our hottest summer ever. I'd still rather have that than winter though, and I'm dreading the cold weather that's headed our way.

We just came out of winter so now it's your turn. I would say "enjoy" but that sounds like the last thing you will be doing.

@RichardMeister Thanks. I'll try my best to enjoy it but I hate to feel cold, and it gives me a lot of extra work caring for my bonsai trees. Still I shouldn't complain too much because our winters are a lot milder than what many other people have to contend with.

Yes, they are saying our snowpack is near normal so we should be better off this year than last year.

That would be great if all we have is a "warm" summer. But I think it's going to be a blustering hot summer.

We're back in the rain until the weekend. Then next we it's forecasted to be back into the 70s.
