When it comes down to emergencies, good things sometimes come in small packages!

Protein bars make the best survival food.
If there is one thing I know, good things do in fact, come in small packages!
From a movie I recently watched, 10,000 Days, I saw a person get hold of a frozen protein bar from a person who had frozen inside Air Force One from a plane crash that had been buried deep in the snow and ice after Earth had been apparently thrown off course on a cooling curve by a large comet impact.
The idea hit me. I am trying to stock up on water for now but maybe it would be a good idea to buy a generous supply of food protein bars to just stock up in case there is a blackout or something serious. I don't think I will be purchasing a pallet of the stuff but a few cases would be good in an emergency. What are you thoughts about this?
I have seen one person purchase an entire case of peanut butter. It is something high in protein and can be stored for a long time and still be good to eat. One online source of information about the shelf life of peanut butter in a jar maintains a one year shelf life past the expiration date on the jar that has not been opened, either at normal room temperature in dry storage or refrigerated:
URL:
Find out the shelf life of peanut butter and how long peanut butter lasts after the best before date. To find how long before peanut butter expires ...

It's just a good thing to have extra food that stores a long time. Even in times of unemployment or a natural disaster, people don't realize how important food storage is. I also recommend keeping a case or more of those jelly or honey packages that are like the kinds you get at fast food. Sam's sells these things. They keep longer because they are individually sealed.

@lookatdesktop Yeah, specially here where typhoons usually occur. We always stock up canned foods when there's a typhoon, I will add up the peanut butters.

@LdeL0318 You might as well enjoy it while the typhoon hits. I mean, you can't exactly go out for a burger and fries when that happens. lol.

@Hatley ET was one of my favorite movies. And I have had those Reese's Peices look a lot like M&M's which is another of my candy addictions. lol.

It's best to stick to the things your stomach can tolerate while sick in the hospital for sure.

I love protein bars. I worked in a GNC and loved getting them all the time.

I had this in the mall when I went there a lot. I used to tell the guy there who was working there welcoming people in the store and said, Does GNC stand for Gross National Council? He laughed and said, Shame on you. That isn't what GNC stands for. I was only kidding. lol.

Keep looking. I think a lot of those kits might not be so great and maybe even be very expensive.

Yes, protein bars, peanut butter and canned goods (with a can opener) are good foods to store.

It's good that you mentioned that. Most often I have a hard time finding a mechanical can opener that is both reliable and pocket size. I need to get a few extras just to have handy around the home.
