How to make members interested to post in a paid-to-post forum?

There is a forum our team is working on which has sections with very easy, daily life topics to discuss about. Members are free to start any topic related to those sections. It is a paid to post forum like Mylot. To encourage them to post original, good quality posts, we rolled out a contest asking them to post about a particular topic from their daily life experience. It is a very common topic and it happens in every house, so it's not hard to post on it. However, we got NO response to it!! Not even a single topic, in spite of having double advantage of getting paid and also a possibility of winning the contest for extra prize. Can anybody shed some light on this as to what could have gone wrong?

I don't know whether what I say will help you or not. Here, I will tell you my experience about join to some paid-post-forums. First, I have joined morachat.com. This site is easy to join and make interaction, but I don't like the site because it applies some rules before we get payment. Second, I have joined postloop.com, the site has high payment but it is hard to be its member, I have to have a good English grammar. The site pay us use point basis. I don't like its payment rules. I hope you can take an advantage from my explanation. I am sorry if I give mistake information.

Maybe.. but we don't have any special rules for this contest.. Our general forum rules apply to this contest also.. Also, it's not about something they don't know, it's something they do everyday at home.. we just told them to post about it with pictures.. But the response has been pathetic!

How many members this forum has? You should know that usually only the 2% of people take action when asked to do something. If your forum is small, may be for the moment not even the 2% decided to reply.

Well, yes.. I agree with you on this.. but still it was strange. The forum has over 200 members, and a good majority are active everyday. I am guessing that the reason for this could be this: We had also mentioned some penalties if the contest section was misused or spammed. So, maybe fearing the penalty, they decided not to participate?

@buddha3 The penalties have surely blocked people, they feared to be penalized.

Perhaps your forum is not famous and therefore you don't have enough members yet. Besides, today there are many scams. You have to make sure that you can pay for the members and this will encourage them to be active to post in the forum.

Dear, if that was the case I would have mentioned it.. Maybe you didn't go through the post and responses here fully.. I agree the forum is not famous, but it has members.. and most of them have been there for more than 4 months. They are participating daily in discussions, but they are just not showing interest in this contest. We have proved many times that we pay honestly. So there is no doubt about that.

If I was there, I would have replied So is this forum you're working on still bare? Maybe you pre-format the main Categories and members would follow suit. Example, you create a category like "General Discussions" then members would likely talk about movies, food, etc. under this category.

All the categories are well described. Most of the members have been there for several months and they very well know all the categories and they have been posting in all of them for long now.. but all this while it was random posting without much effort. This time, to get some quality, we asked for a little information on what they post, that's all..

@buddha3 I guess that also depends on the members interest and capacity to post. You can also have a rule regarding the quality of posts that members have to make . It' all up to you
