This Week

With my father's passing this past Sunday, this week has gotten crazy. Yesterday I got the funeral arrangements taken care of with my sister and brother. Today it was getting my hair done so I don't look like an overgrown mop head. I just got back from there and it looks great. Tomorrow I'm meeting with my sister and brother at the church to talk with the pastor about the service. That shouldn't take long. Then Thursday is the funeral. I will be leaving the house no later than 8 AM and have no idea when I will be back. The funeral is at 11 with the showing from 9:30 until time of service. Luncheon to follow. So maybe three when all is said and done. Friday is the entombment here in Green Bay, so the only time this week I won't be leaving town. Then Saturday everything returns to normal. The new normal without any parents. I'm sure it's going to take a lot to get used to the fact they are both gone now. Right now there is just too much going on to get this all taken care of and it all seems surreal. I know it won't always be that way. One day it will hit that I don't have them any longer. So that is my week. How is yours shaping up? Thanks for reading.

It was nice yesterday. Rain today. The weather alert said rain/snow showers, but no snow here.

I think you have not factored in the part about his assets. After you have completed the disposal of his asset, then life will be back to normal. Until then, it is a very stressful period. Perhaps you will discover that he had bought shares of Coca-Cola when it was just listed! Your whole family will see "million"!

@just4him If he has an old insurance policy, the nursing home cannot touch it. I think you have to get a lawyer to check with all the banks, and insurance companies to see if your dad held any forgotten policy.

My sister would have said something is that was the case. I haven't forgotten about the assets. I'm just hoping there's going to be something. My sister said there was still an inheritance - the nursing home took a lot of his assets. So yes, now we wait to find out what the sale of the stocks comes to along with everything else after the bills are all taken care of.

@scheng1 There isn't anything forgotten. Dad turned everything over to my sister's care when she became POA for their finances.

It's so different. I lost my brother and my mother, but losing both parents leaves a void that I'm having a hard time dealing with at the moment.

I didn't need to go anywhere today, so it eased up a bit. I just have AWANA tonight and a bunch of over excited kids. It should help.

I'm so sorry for your week. It brings up all the memories from when my mother passed away and it felt so strange to have both of my parents gone. And then my husband went through the same thing, and I remember him telling me how lost he felt knowing he could never call them on the phone again. Losing parents is a strange feeling, and yet, I do feel them around me so much these days. That's the comfort. xoxo

I have memories, some good, some not. It's just strange not to have them around anymore.

@just4him Yes, that's how it goes. We read something or hear something or see something and we want to tell them. But we can't call or go visit. But we can still tell them. I've learned that with my parents and with Britt.

You are going through tough time right now. It will take some time to get back to normal. Hope it all passes over soon and you get time to relax. You would need that after everything is said and done. Sending prayers and well wishes yours as well as your family's way!

Thank you very much. Today is the hardest day so far. I'm just lethargic. I don't want to do anything and I didn't even want to get out of bed this morning. However, I forced myself to do so.

Im sorry for your lost. I wonder how one person moves on after parents passing. I always gets scared when I see discussion such as this.

It's not easy. Thank you. Why would you be scared? Just curious. I know my parents are in heaven and one day I will see them again, so there is nothing to scare me. It's just the void that their passing has caused that's hard right now.

I will never stop missing my grandpa, but sometimes I feel as if he is checking in on me. He's still out there, somewhere
