I was plagiarized but not at myLot

First let me say that I am finally feeling a little better. It's been a rough 10 days but I think I'll survive bronchitis. Now let me tell you my story.... I belong to a site that does product reviews for Amazon. I received an offer to get a $50 product, review it honestly and post my review on Amazon. I received the product on Thursday, I did with it what I needed to do and proceeded to write my review yesterday (Friday) morning. I went on Amazon's page for that product and noticed there was only 1 other review so far. I posted my review and even included two photos. Yesterday late afternoon I received an e-mail from the review site with instructions on how to send them a copy of the review. They then confirm it was done and also puts my name in their system to be part of the next product review. When I looked for my review to get the link I notice there were 11 reviews. I glanced through them and to my surprise there was my another review with a different name and it was mine word for word. I checked it twice to make sure I wasn't mistaken. I sent an e-mail to the review site and was assured that Amazon reviews all reviews and that person's review will be pulled and probably banned from posting reviews on Amazon. Amazon will check the 'time stamp' and know that mine was there first. OK, we know people plagiarize, so this isn't to shocking. But how stupid can you be to copy/paste a review when there are only a few posted and the duplicate stands out like a sore tooth? So that person got a $50 product for doing absolutely nothing....I hope they enjoy it since it will be the last product they get. Obviously, no thinking involved.... It does seem rather stupid to plagiarise something and post it on the same page.

If the person had waited a few days the two would have never been close enough to recognize.

@AbbyGreenhill They would still have been noticed by anyone who scrolled through the reviews.

@Asylum Yes, but when you are glancing over reviews you don't remember more than the first few you read...now there are 24 reviews...if she had waited a few more days it would have blended in. We have 7 days to post a review.

@AbbyGreenhill What is so complicated about saying I tried xyz for 10 days. Here is what I like about it. Here is something I don't like. I was satisfied with the product and would recommend it to others.

That has got to be the boldest, most brazen plagiarizing story I have ever heard! They ought to be ashamed! Anyway,, I am glad you are feeling better!

I was accused plagiarism once several years and had to go through the hassle of proving my innocence and that in fact, I was the one who was plagiarized.

Lazy is right. I think it took me a total of 5 mins. to write mine and then I reviewed it so it's not rocket science!

When I was a moderator of a site I would hunt the cheaters, those who plagiarize or steal images that aren't sourced @AbbyGreenhill

@infatuatedbby I'd like to see people start sourcing their photon on myLot - it's a legal issue.

that sounds rather fun, not the getting plagiarized, but the reviews. I do some of that for crowdtap, mostly through a review for Mr. Sketch markers right now

This is indeed disgusting and authors face this problem throughout the world. I face this everyday on facebook where I keep posting comedy pieces in a group. The most stupid thing is that when I ask somebody, 'why did u copy' and get an answer like, 'I liked the post and so I copied!'

Yes, there are cheaters all over. If you plagarize a post you make a few pennies, or dollar, before you get caught, this person got a $50 product for free.

That displayed a definite lack of joined-up thinking on the part of the plagiarizer... Well spotted! I've never checked to see if any of my Amazon reviews have been so praised... Must take a look later!

I did not know you could get paid for Amazon reviews. I have done a few for free. Do they date and time stamp the reviews? So you can prove yours was first? That is a lot of nerve. I have been plagiarized and it is not a nice feeling. I hope the offender got dumped from the site.

It is not paid by Amazon there are many outfits that hire people to write reviews for Amazon. Everything that is online has a time/date stamp someplace in it. I am sure the person will get booted.
