Plum Tree Blooming

My plum tree is finally blooming. It's so pretty when it's in full bloom. The plums we get are pretty small and mostly the birds and squirrels get them before they are fully ripened. I don't mind though we have enough other fruits growing that we really don't need more bringing fruit flies into the house. The beauty alone is enough for me.
My husband has netted this tree on several occasions trying to preserve the fruit until it can fully ripen and they taste pretty good. Usually we don't get that many plums for netting to even be a necessity. Not sure why this tree doesn't produce much because as you can see it blooms and makes fruit.

@fishtiger58 Its a lot of work for the tree to produce these beautiful blooms and they only last a week.

@Juliaacv True and then they have to go about the business of producing fruit.

I know some about gardening, but not much about fruit trees. I assume you need a male and female?

@fishtiger58 Those are small plums. But if they're good, that's all that matters.

@just4him I have never seen plums that small and when I occasionally get to try one before the birds eat them they are really good.

Not sure, we didn't plant this tree. It's a dwarf tree however it's not very tall. And the plums are cherry size.

The critters always get the plums. The plums are very tiny like cherry size, we don't mind much.

It certainly is a pretty tree with lots of blooms but it is a shame that doesn't give you lots of fruit.

'tis beautiful :) i fear the winds took the blossoms plum off'a ours this year (pun intended). we don't get many from ours, figure coz 'tis the only one 'round fer 't least 1 mile 'n the cross-pollination jest don't happen that oft. ours're tiny - 'bout cherry size 'n if'n ya don't keep a careful watch'll miss'em entirely. they're extremely sweet, the birds love 'em. bad thingy's they spit out those seeds 'n now i've "volunteers" comin' 'p'n odd places..like under the front porch, lol.

Sounds like my tree. It is a dwarf I think it's not very tall, but we never get to eat the fruit. We get runners off the tree itself, but we mow those down, we don't want another plum tree and there is now room for another to grow in the same place.

Yea the fruit is secondary, the fruit is small and the birds usually get them all.

@DianneN they are so small it's one bite, and more often than not the birds get them before they ripen fully. We don't mind we have so many other fruits growing we couldn't possibly eat it all. We have given peaches to the area nursing home though when we have a bumper crop.

Sounds like my tree, as we didn't plant it we are not sure what the variety is. Could be a wild plum, tiny little fruit.

Gorgeous isn't it. Yesterday when the wind blew some of the petals came off, I was watching out my window and it looked like it was snowing.

I do, the fruit is tiny and the birds get them, so I do enjoy the blooming part.
