The Technology has remarkably changed the domestic tools of Indian housewife. Earlier, she was cooking food on Iron chulha using forest wood and this has been replaced slowly with Gas stove and subsequently electric and by using various other techniques. The storage containers which were earlier made of earthenware slowly transformed into Brass, Bronze, Aluminum, Stainless steel, plastic, Tupperware and other made from various materials in various styles appropriate to the purpose for which they are used. But, there are two important domestic items which are still in use in the kitchen of an Indian Housewife. Pickle jar: This is mainly used as the name indicates to store exclusively pickles. The material of these jars will be Ceramic. After the pickle is prepared the whole content will be transferred into these jars and will protect the content without being spoiled even for 2 years. Earlier these were available in the color combination of light brown and white. But, now these are available in various floral designs over them. Wooden Churner: This is another great tool used in the preparation of buttermilk. The Curd is kept in a vessel and water is poured into it. Now, the wooden churner is dipped inside the content and will be twisted with both hands. Within minutes, your buttermilk will be ready to be served along with food. But, now the electric churner made of stainless steel has replaced the wooden churner. There are many designs also available in the market. Even then, the taste of the buttermilk prepared using wooden churner will always be greater in taste than the one prepared using electric churners. At the same time, the wooden churner is considered as a tool of exercise for women as it improves the blood circulation in the body and activates the pressure points situated in both the palms.

Thanks for sharing this. I guess with people getting used to "how it used to be", it is always difficult to replace the original. For sure, the way it looks, texture or color will be the same or close to it, but doing it the old-fashioned way will always be better one way or another.

Always the original will remain the same. Though the people try to adopt the new ones, ultimately they have to come back to the original one only, but, it is only a matter of time to realize the value.

@shivamani10 I guess finding innovation is the next best thing because people seldom have time to do anything anymore. Like cooking, people end up buying "instant" simply because we don't have the luxury of time to cook! Of course, there are some who are just lazy..

@cessy_08 : Yes. you are right. What our science is teaching is development of Technology. This technology no doubt makes life very easy. But, we have to pay for it in the log run.

I spotted this on the sidebar and was intrigued by the little pots. Do they seal the pickle jars in some way?

These traditional things used to produce awesome results. In some Food and Travel channel shows, we still see such things being used to make pickles and other things.
