One county, Los Angeles County, in the state of California, has a larger population than 40 of the other STATES in the U.S. The current population is almost 4 million people in that one county. And to think that at one time, California was ranked 23rd in population. The world’s largest underground caverns are the Carlsbad Caverns under the Guadalupe Mountains. 46,755 acres and 21 miles have been explored thus far. The first Kentucky Derby was run in 1875. The winning jockey was Oliver Lewis and the horse that won the race was Aristides. One interesting note: Of the 15 men who played the role of jockey, 13 were African-American. The 2015 winning horse was American Pharaoh, with Victor Espinoza as the winning jockey. I watch the Kentucky Derby every year on TV. Although it only lasts a few minutes, it’s very exciting, especially if I happen to pick the winner, and I often do. However, I don’t gamble.
