Gasoline in a Gallon Glass Jar

One day I went to visit my aunt. As I drove into her driveway I noticed a gallon glass jar full of gasoline sitting on the trunk of her car. Visions of an explosion popped into my mind. My aunt’s car would go up in flames. It may even catch the house on fire and burn it to the ground. The garage, which the car was parked in front of, would surely go too. Why on earth would my aunt leave a glass jar of gasoline in direct sunlight? Didn’t she know that was an explosion just waiting to happen? My aunt came out the front door to greeted me as she always did. As I strolled to her house I kept my cool. I didn’t want to alarm her. I calmly asked, “What is that jar of gasoline doing sitting on your car?” “That’s not gasoline,” my aunt said. “That’s sun tea.” I should have known my aunt wasn’t dumb enough to leave a glass jar of gasoline sitting out in the sunlight like that. After all my uncle was a mechanic. Even though he had died a few years earlier I was sure he had warned her of the dangers of putting gas in a glass jar. Shortly after I entered the house my aunt said, “That tea ought to be done by now.” She went out and fetched it. When she returned to the house she got out two glasses, filled them with ice and poured tea in them. That sun tea was so sweet there was no need to add sugar. Have your ever made sun tea? Do you like sun tea?

I've made plenty of tea, but never "sun" tea. I guess having it in the sun makes the flavors come out? Good thing it wasn't gasoline - that wouldn't have been sweet at all .

I don't know if it brings the flavors out but all sun tea I've tasted has been sweeter than plain tea.

@RichardMeister I wonder what kind of tea your aunt used. We have plenty of sun right now - seriously we could probably make it all year 'round! Do you make it?

I've never heard of sun tea. Did your aunt use tea-leaves? And is there a variety called sun tea?

I used to make sun tea all the time when I lived in Cyprus. It was so sunny there all the time that the tea was ready quickly.

It's nice and sunny here today. Not a cloud in the sky. But tomorrow the clouds are supposed to roll in.
