Exercise at the YMCA Pool

My friend Kathy signed up for a program at the YMCA called Aquatic Motion. She thought it would be a good program for my husband as well. Today was our first class. We get a very discounted price on this class because we have Silver Sneakers which is a program for seniors who are on a Medicare Advantage Program. The teacher was amazing and her husband has Parkinson's so she is very knowledgeable about the issues that arise. She stayed after the hour long class and talked to us about a special program at the senior center that would also help him and she gave him some personal attention and showed him some exercises to do. We had a great time and after class we went out to lunch with my friend. This class meets 3 times a week and we will be trying to attend as often as we can so that we can fight back against Parkinson's and I have to say it gave me a pretty good workout as well. Have you found an exercise program that works for you?

I do some exercises here at home but mostly sitting as I can't stand for any length of time anymore. The class and teacher sound like a good idea, good luck with that and I hope you all had a good lunch.

That is the beauty of doing the exercise in the pool, it allows me with my bad knees to do a lot of things as well as helps hubs.

That's nice to hear. We all need to exercise regularly. I do one hour brisk walking every morning and then 45 minute body shaking work out every afternoon. Working out makes me feel good.

The exercise program that works for me is a two mile walking from my home and to my home every day. Fortunately, I don“t have to pay any money to do that.

That doesn't work for me since my knees are shot. Exercising in water is no stress.

I've always wanted to do water exercises, but the private club that I was about to join closed their doors just days before we were going to buy a membership. The only other pools in our town are either at the Y or at a retirement resort. The pool at the Y is really over used and I have a germ thing, so I cannot bring myself to go into that pool. But, every day I get closer to being able to use the one at the retirement resort. Maybe one day. I'm glad that you found something that you can do together that should benefit you both.

That looks nice. My roomie is a membe of the Silver Sneakers program too. He is going to be going back to the gym again. There is a Y about maybe 45 minutes from here. I might go in there sometime because someone told me they have a steam room, and I like those.

I think we have already benefited, there are so many different joints that are worked and stretches that are done. We are exhausted but feel great.
