Altitude and Traveling

Have you ever gone somewhere where the altitude is different than yours? What was your experience? I am visiting my friend in Denver, Colorado in 15 days (!!) And he has told me that the altitude is much different there than here, and sometimes people get sick when they move. Lack of oxygen or something. I have never been in or near mountains so I cant say how it will affect me. Any insight? Have you gotten ill when traveling to different altitudes? Is there any way to prepare yourself?

Me neither....I hear it can make you sick though. To be honest I am not even sure what type of altitude I am in. I am guessing pretty low to the ground though.

Yes, he is right. Our altitude here in Colorado can get pretty high depending on where you go and it is a problem for some people. You will feel tired and out of breath, a lot of my family members feel it when they come. Also colder, we see people wearing coats and sweatshirts and we are all in shorts and flip flops. lol Hope you enjoy your stay.

Nice! I am excited. (Besides for getting sick). It sounds like, from what my friend tells me, the temperatures on average are a little warmer over there than here (I live in Minnesota, as far as I am concerned it is still winter over here). Lol. Do you have anything to suggest for me while I am in the area of Denver to check out?!

I have been to places above 4000m sea level. Nothing serious unless you think of running a marathon at such height.

@maezee 4000m is the height of Mount Rainier and Fairweather Mountain. That is if you manage to reach the peak, and stand there. You will experience what 4000m height is like.

Yea, the altitude affects the levels of oxygen we get so the more we move up the harder it is for us to breath.
