The end is nigh!

At the end of the month, Pup, the trainee assistance dog we have been socialising for the charity ‘Dogs for Good’ is off to the charity’s kennels for the next stage of his training. He’s been living with us now for 15 months so it will be odd without him.
People keep asking how I feel about him going and whether it will be a sad day, but in fact the main thing I feel is a sense of achievement. We didn’t really know if we were doing the right thing, not having done this before, but he seems to have turned out OK. He comes with me everywhere, he’s totally unfazed by anything, and everyone he meets comments on what a lovely and well-behaved dog he is, so we must have done something right!
I would feel worse about him going if I thought he would pine and miss us – but I know he won’t miss us at all, he absolutely loves going to the charity’s centre and goes crazy whenever he meets any of the staff, so to spend all his time there with other dogs and with plenty of interesting things to do will be heaven on earth for him, like one long activity camp with his best friends. I doubt if I will get more than the very briefest of backward glances.

As you say, we have known from the start that he's not going to be here forever and we have often talked about what he will do afterwards and when he will leave us. I think they will be OK; when he went in to kennels for a trial week they didn't really miss him too much.

Good for you. They need more like you.I have met someone here that does the same thing.
Also ask him if he miss the dogs when they leave. He said well may a few weeks or so I do.But I get new dogs all of the time.
I am very happy to work with them.He and his wife does this.

I'm not really sure what happens next (not done this before) but in any case I think we will have a break, I really want to be able to wear pretty summer dresses and jewellery again. I had to give up both because he sometimes gets excited over something and pulls on the lead, and as a result the silver rings I usually wear have been squashed out of shape! And all last summer when he was little I had to wear trousers because a flapping skirt was just an invitation to jump at it and bite it, so after he ripped my favourite skirt I had to stop that too.
