. Since this is my 50th discussion here, let me share with you something sweet ... Pavlova is my family's favourite dessert. Whenever we have family gathering, I make sure I have two large pavlovas for dessert..but when it's only for my husband and I, the small one is enough..And I love it with lots of fresh fruits.. It keeps in the fridge for up to 3 days.. The other family favourite dessert is trifle .. What is your family's favourite desserts? Bess .

we dont eat desserts that much cause of my parents health issues but whenever we have all the kids in the house, they love ice cream (any flavor) on top of everything else. we sometimes make mango float, fruit salad as we have a lot of fruits here. anything with fruits, we usually make our own.

Firstly congratulations on reaching 50 discussions. I love pavlova too but only have it when we go out. My husband is Type 2 diabetic and it really is way too sweet for him.

pretty much any treat without nuts, I don't like nuts - however, because of my corn allergy, I have to be very careful about what I eat - I don't know about in Australia, but in the States most powdered sugar is 3% corn starch...

This is the first time I heard of corn allergy.. And I didn't know that powdered sugar contains corn starch .. here at home we use raw sugar.. I can imagine you must be always reading labels when you go grocery shopping..

@ElicBxn my daughter in law is allergic to garlic and onions so when she comes to visit, I make sure I don't add those to cooking her meals .. even just a small amount of garlic makes her sick for days ..

@marguicha and knowing your talents in the kitchen, i know you're very intrigued and wish to experiment on making the pavlova, if not for your medical condition.

You know, I eat one or two slices of fresh fruit before each meal because I read that enzyme we get from fruits helps in digesting our food well.. So it is recommended to eat fruits first .. I noticed too that if I eat fruit before meals, I eat less .. good for losing weight ..

My family loves ice cream and fruit salad. We don't often have cake but if I have my own oven, I'd love to make my own cake rather than buy at the store. Maybe I'll try making a Pavlova myself :)

pavlova is a classic australian dessert, right? i see mangoes, strawberries and kiwi. is it mostly egg white inside, like a meringue? how do you make the frosting? i seem to see some syrup.

@hereandthere I bought the merengue base and whipped the cream to thicken and add your favourite fruits .. like kiwi, strawberries, mangoes and passion fruit (syrup) and sometimes I also use peaches .. more fruits is better .. I heard that pavlova actually originated in New Zealand .. but its also a very popular dessert for Australians ..

My fave dessert is cheesecake. But that picture you provided with your discussion makes me want to rethink my preference. “Pavlova is a meringue-based dessert named after the Russian ballerina Anna Pavlova.” (Source: Wikipedia) I have an old cookbook at home and remember reading this but I cross checked with Wikipedia and it led me to another interesting tidbit about this dessert. Evidently, both Australia and New Zealand both claim it as their national dish. Ms. Pavlova toured these countries during the 1920s. Just stared a foodie blog so I'm collecting food-related tidbits like this.
Search: George Negus Tonight :: history :: Transcripts :: Pavlova   Print  Email Broadcast 6.30pm on 30/08/2004 Australia and New Zealand square off again. Both countries claim the Pavlova as a national dish, but there can only be one winner. This popular

Thank you so much for sharing this article on Pavlova .. indeed, Australia and New Zealand both claim that pavlova originated in their countries .. .. But I think that Australia's national dish is meat pie ... Anyway, I love cheesecakes too ..
