During the process of aging, it is possible to experience a steady decline in our mental abilities. Since the state of our mind is closely linked to our physical well-being, it is important to maintain a moderate level of fitness in our advancing years. Research studies clearly indicate that with improved physical and mental activities, the negative effects of aging on our mental abilities could be successfully averted. Medical Research has indicated that physical and aerobic exercise training can lower the risk of developing undesirable changes in our brain functions. Regular exercise can help the brain maintain its ability to revert to one function if another starts failing in later life. In this context, it would be a good idea to be aware of our family history. Check to find out if any malfunctioning of the brain like dementia and Alzheimer’s has been prevalent among any member of your family. Provide your doctor with all the information you can, so that he/she could work out the right strategy for you to combat the negative impact of aging.

Aging is good if you are not in pain. Pain is not good at all.

@jstory07 Indeed yes, one cannot avoid aging. It is a natural phenomenon. But one must choose to age gracefully and try our best to keep our mental abilities intact.

@marlina Although pain can come at any age, there are ways one can significantly reduce pain in natural ways. Too many pain killers can have adverse effect on our bodies.

There is no evidence of mental malfunctioning in our family and my Mum lived to 104 but I know that I sometimes have trouble finding the word I want nowadays.

@Gabugs I think she worked hard all her life and was always interested in everyone and everything. And she loved her garden.
