A bitterly frustrating and disappointing day. My long awaited computer mic finally arrived so I was keen to get it up and running only to find that it just plain does not work. The sound quality once I got the computer acknowledge it at all was garbled crackle – no words were audible at all. I got a friendly message saying I was too loud or too close to the mic so I tried whispering from the other end of the room, only for the same message to repeat. I spent so long trying to work round this mess that I got nothing else done all day. Every step iā€˜m taking to launch my Youtube presence is being frustrated despite messages telling me how click of a button easy it is. I am less than convinced but looking at alternatives now. Background noise from the laptop's own electronics was the cause of this distortion for me years ago. Solution: different laptop.

@pgntwo it is an old laptop so I suspect it is the problem rather than the mic though the sound quality from youtubes or cd's and dvd's is fine

@arthurchappell In my case, it only happened with the mic as well. Other audio was fine. Are you using USB or 3.5mm jack mic?

You must be so frustrated at the moment. We bought a gizmo to transfer photo slides to computer and that plain doesn't work either. Such a waste of money. What are you trying now?

I'm waiting for the bad weather to dry up so I can test run my camcorder properly - each day of more clouds, rain and even snow are deeply infuriating just now

This sounds very much like a poor connection. It would also be interesting to know what the audio processing is because laptops tend to rely on onboard graphics. If your mobile or tablet have audio recording capabilities, you can record your voice that way and transfer the audio file to the laptop. This would not be an easy alternative because you would need to watch the video while narrating in order to get the timing right. It would also require editing the audio length to match and overlaying it accurately, which I have done in the past and realise the difficulty of.

That sucks and sorry for your frustration. Sounds like they may have made it to powerful.

I can see your frustration. I had all sorts of problems with a webcam years ago. Took forever to get it working properly. Good luck.

Hope you're able to get the mic working properly. There are few things worse than something long-awaited materialising and then failing to work.
