Grease is the Word

One of my favorite movies when I was growing up was Grease, starring John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John. I must have seen it a half dozen times in the movie theaters as a kid, plus countless times on network tv over the years. So on Thursday night when my daughter mentioned her high school drama department was putting on a performance of Grease, I was immediately interested. She had mentioned it because if she attended the play, she would get extra credit in her English Lit class. I quickly re-arranged my Friday night plans, and the daughter and I went to see the Grease performance at her high school. Honestly, it was the first high school theatrical production I've been to since I myself was in high school, so I wasn't sure what to expect in the quality department. Let's just say I was completely blown away by the entire production! From elaborate sets and authentic costumes, to superb acting and singing, these high school students put on an amazing performance! It was so good, in fact, that we decided to go back and see it again on Saturday night! Are any of you fans of the movie Grease, or have you ever seen the theatrical version? In actuality, the Broadway play came long before the movie, but it was the movie that helped make Grease a household name! Or if not Grease, what are some great high school stage productions you have seen in your life?

We've been to a few high school productions and they've always been really good. The young talent that is around is quite amazing.

Plus, it's nice to support the students. Who knows, you may be seeing the next big Hollywood movie star before they get their big break! And speaking of that, have you seen the new Star Wars movie? Poe, the hero pilot from the Resistance, went to my high school!

I wish it was still playing on Broadway! I would love to take a special trip to New York City just to see the show on Broadway!

@DanieGirl80587 Or if you want to brave long lines, you can get leftover tickets at half-price on the day of the play! I did that when I went to see Beauty and the Beast in NYC. I had to stand in line for 2 hours, but the tickets were very nicely priced! But then again, the rest of the trip was very expensive, from the plane flight to the hotel to the cost of food! lol

I used to watch the movie all the time. I've never seen a play of it done. West Side Story comes to mind, I went to see it being done when I was still in high school, Probably 12 years ago now.

Sounds like my experience with the show. I loved the movie and my daughter's high school did the show too. Again, I thought it was great and went the second night as well. They even brought the car onstage.

YES!!! Our production had the car too! It was quite exhilarating seeing it on stage, especially for a high school production!

@JamesHxstatic That is what I was most surprised at...their singing voices! I tell you, the guy that played Danny, and the girl that played Sandy, both of them sounded as great as John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John! I could believe how well they sang!

@moffittjc Children of Eden was written by John Caird, and the music was done by Stephen Schwartz. It is twist of the story of Genesis. It's a two part musical.

West Side Story!!!!! Now there's a classic I haven't thought of in years! I remember in high school my English teacher made us watch it in class, and everyone groaned at first, but afterward everyone was like "that was the best ever!"

I enjoy the original Grease but have never seen a theatrical version. I did see the live version that aired earlier this year. It was pretty good. Just as cheesy as the original with some new songs.
