These were chosen by the New7Wonders Foundation which was established in 2001, after many polls were taken.
The Great Pyramid of Giza, since it’s the oldest (2560 B.C.) and still standing has an honorary status. That makes perfect sense to me.
The Great Wall of China - 700 B.C.
Petra in Jordan - 312 B.C.
Colosseum - Rome 80 A.D.
Chichen Itza - Yucatan, Mexico 600 A.D.
Machu Picchu - Cuzco Region, Peru 1450 A.D
Taj Mahal - Agra, India 1643 A.D.
Christ the Redeemer - Rio de Janeiro, Brazil 1931 A.D.
All of these are still standing and well known.
This foundation has also come up with New7Wonders of Nature and New7Wonders Cities
I will try to find them and post them also.
Have you visited any of these places? I was on the Yucatan Peninsula in Cancun a couple times, but did not go to the Chichen Itza site. It was VERY hot when I was there and I don’t do well in those hot climates. I need to go when it’s cooler but I don’t know if there are any cool days on the Yucatan.

I visited the Colosseum and the Roman Forum several times. If I had to put an amphitheater in a list of "wonders of the world", I would hesitate between the Colosseum and the amphitheater of El Jem in Tunisia. The second one is smaller, but it is very well restored and in a beautiful location, although the City of Rome made a lot of efforts to offer a better perspective of the Colosseum. When I visited it for the first time in 1975, it was surrounded by urban traffic, and was not looking at all like a "wonder of the world"

@IreneVincent If amphitheaters have received a lot of blood from gladiators and various criminals, they did not received a lot of Christian blood : first, the persecution of Diocletian lasted only during 10 years, and, second, Christians wanted to die like martyrs and were not offering a good show to the public as they were not trying to defend themselves. They were going directly to the lions, and we know that sometimes the lions have been afraid by their weird behavior.

I've always wanted to go to Rome and see all the ancient ruins there. When I think about the horrible acts that were committed there in that Coliseum though, it makes me sad. Christians were fed to the lions and many other atrocious things happened there in Rome.

@topffer I don't know who wrote this "Acts of the Martyrs" but true Christians never CHOSE to be martyrs according to the Bible.
They DID refuse to make sacrifices to false gods and they, even today refuse to give allegiance to any human or idol or symbol other than to God.
They do NOT compromise in these circumstances because it IS an act of apostasy, whether some persons think so or not. That has always been the case with true Christians, as well as with the ancient Hebrews, who worshipped the true God.
The three Hebrews refused to bow down and do an act of worship to the Image that Nebuchadnezzar set up. You can read about that in Daniel the 3rd chapter.
Christians today still face persecution on this matter of bowing down to images and symbols.

I didn't know all of them. But, it was interesting to learn what they are. I'm still working on the New7Wonders of Nature.
I posted information so far about the Amazon Rainforest and River and Jeju Island off the coast of South Korea.
The next one on the list is Halong Bay in Vietnam, so I will be researching that area and posting some information about that.
