a resource for humanity

How do ordinary folk decide that they want to work on HR {Human Resources}? Maybe they don't. Maybe the only people who choose an HR role as a career are those who have no empathy for others, or those with a narcissistic personality. I've come to the conclusion that there must be 'essential' criteria to be ticked off when people apply. One will be that, much like the miserable woman on the bus, they must be a misery guts. I expect they're encouraged not to smile at interview. Perhaps they never smile. Maybe babies who are born with no smiley gene are forced to study towards a qualification in HR shenanigans. Regardless, it just seems odd to me that anybody would choose a career in HR, a role which is fundamentally hated by most employees. And why am I bringing this up today? Because I have my your job is at risk even though we told you it wasn't meeting with HR. And my beautiful Italian friend is now stressing me out. *sigh*

I hope it turns out Ok for you. A very stressful time which is normally made even worse by the incompetence and uncaring attitudes of HR departments. I remember a time (many years ago) when HR departments were firmly on the side of the employee. Now they are just the tool used by senior management to do their bidding!!

It was a stressful time which didn't actually need to be stressful. My job is safe, thankfully.

@Poppylicious That's good news. Let's hope you don't have to go through that again any time soon!

I have met some amazing HR workers. Here they are in charge of when you get hired and usually also fired. So they are pleasant whrn you are getting hired and not so pleasant when getting fired or disciplined. I think all it takes here is a degree.

Yep, you need a degree here too, I think. Well they certainly offer them at uni. As it turned out, she was quite smiley. I spent my whole meeting feeling bad for this post!

Try not to stress, keep your calm. I hope it will turn out fine for you. I have noticed a very unfriendly attitude of those who work on HR. I do not know if it is mandatory to be unfriendly and never to smile.

All is well! It turned out fine for me, not as fine for some of my colleagues, but I think we'll all be okay. :)
