An Almost Shocking Experience!

With the threat of storms around yesterday, it made me remember a time when there was so much electricity in the air that our daughter's hair was standing straight up! We were camped out at the local lake here, Lake Murray, one 4th of July. The big fire works celebration was taking place on of the beaches of the lake and many people would get in their boats and watch the fire works go off over the lake. We were one of those people. We loaded up in our pontoon boat ad cruised over near the beach and were watching the fire works when we noticed a storm coming in. Hubby watched the storm cautiously so we could head back to shore before the storm go too close. All of a sudden he turns around and looks at Jenna and I and said, "Oh my God! Look at her hair!" Jenna's hair was below her shoulders in length, but it was standing straight up due to all the electricity in the air! The lightening was closer than we thought! He yelled at her to lay down in the floor of the boat as he started the engine. Not knowing what else to do, I laid down on top of her and we raced back across the lake to our camper. Thank God, nothing happened, but that definitely could have been a very shocking experience!

I understand that this was frightening but I'd have liked to see a photo of your daughter's hair. :-)

@MALUSE I wish I had a picture of her hair! It would be funny to look at now, standing up all around her head. It was really scary at the time, especially with her hair being long and heavy, there had to be a lot of electricity in the air to make it stand up like that!

That was a shocking experience! It should be apart of a book or movie. Thank God everything ended up alright. Imagine the shock when you saw your daughters hair standing raised up! Oh boy. That had to be a sight to see.

Thank you, @Teep11 That was quite something to see! It scared us terribly, but everything was ok. We won't be getting back on the water if there are any storm clouds anywhere around us!

That is horrible. I think if you have a dog on the pontoon, the dog will howl until you get him on land again. Fortunately your daughter's hair gave advance warning.

I had never heard that about a dog howling, but as you said, at least our daughter's hair let us know that the lightening was too close!

We were pretty scared that lightening was going to hit her! I didn't know what else to do but to lie on top of her, although that wouldn't have done any good!

That would have been scary. She was drawing the currents to her. If you stayed out on the water she may have been struck. That would not have been good. Heading to shore was a smart thing to do.

It was really scary for us. We were afraid she was going to get hit too. There was not much else we could do but try to get back to shore as quickly as possible.

They say that's a pretty good indication you're about to get struck. Glad nothing happened!

I hate it when there is lots of static in the air. I shock myself every time I touch Jazz or hubby. I bet you did get some giggles from shocking the critters! We most certainly did learn to stay off the water if there is a storm a brewin'! Always better safe than sorry!
