The Most Obnoxious Postal Customer

I was reading about @Asylum observing his postal workers fumble over a few calculations just because he stepped away from the norm by asking for stamps rather than a printout of actual postage. It threw them into a tizzy. It made me laugh as that is me several times a week at the postage counter. I've been mailing out pocket letters and I don't want the postage printed out either. I want pretty stamps. I also want a variety of stamps. But I still need some of the postage on a print out so I can get tracking. In short. It's ME. I am the most obnoxious postal customer.
You would think after several months of this they would realize what I want but each time I must ask for it. I'm a little picky about my stamps too, and they no longer have them in the drawer at the counter, no, they must go to a larger cabinet with multiple drawers that they all use at the back.
Sometimes they have had to return to the cabinet more than once to get different stamps. It's very hard for me to get what I want from them because I hate to put them to so much trouble but hey. I want what I want! Is it my fault they make it complicated?
Thank goodness my postcards are not as much trouble. They all go for the same postage so I buy a lot of cute penny stamps, two cent stamps and 3 cent stamps. Then each postcard gets the regular big round stamp and I just add a couple of extra penny stamps to make it pretty. It doesn't really make up for all the trouble I cause with the pocket letters, but I try to do my part to make their lives easier.

@Jeanniemaries I can get a booklet from the PO (or find the same thing online) which tells me weights and costs. I have a scale which gives weight in grams (picked it up at a garage sale) so mostly I can tell what stamps I want. When I was selling on Ebay knowing the weight was handy for estimating postage costs.

@JudyEv I did that when selling on ebay too. I didn't take all my equipment with me when I moved because the space in my home is so limited. We had a huge shipping operation as I had my own building and warehouse and employees when I did ebay. It was a fun time for me. But my sources dried up and I just got out.

Yes, I am, but the postcards all weigh the same so I can put the stamps on myself. I have a drawerful of dollar stamps and then some. The pocket letters weigh differently each time and I worry that they will arrive postage due, so I trundle myself down to the post office each time to let them weigh it and choose stamps. I save the ones at home for the postcards.

We have a tiny little post office in our rural village. It is a one (wo)man show, and I know the lady quite well. She is very patient and she takes her time with everyone. If you are undecided and someone else comes in that looks like they are in a hurry, she will refer you to the side counter while she waits on the new party coming in.

And I wouldn't mind waiting if she needed to help someone quickly. I am rarely in a rush and I love that part of my life.

@JudyEv Yep! And I actually have a post office nearby that Is a very tiny country one, with one person working. I never go there as the hours are odd, maybe I should look into it. It is about a tenth mile closer than my regular one but completely off the radar as I never go out that way. It's very scenic though.

The only reason that these people have difficulty is that they have become so accustomed to the easy way of type in a figure and hand over a printout.
I considered myself to be quite amenable because I was happy with any combination, which turned out to be two at £2.25, one at 20 pence and one at 5 pence.
Of course I blame you for all the hassle because if you did not collect stamps I could have simply bought a printout.

@Jeanniemaries I remember you mentioned previously that you enjoyed receiving the stamps on overseas mail, so it would have been foolish to affix a printed mail label. The two £2.25 stamps are Christmas issues, although personally I would not have recognised them as such.
I managed to find a map of the Metrolink tram system, which should help you to place the relative location of the tram stations.

@Jeanniemaries When I weighed the envelope it came to about 115 grams, which is over the 100 gram division. Since I had a choice of remove a few items or pay for a 250 gram mailing, I included a few leaflets to make use of the size.

You know, standing in line has made me see that. It's a hoot what people say and do and how upset they get when they can't ship a package the way they pack it. One lady had a box that you can fill for one price but it was so full it bowed out on all sides and was taped to the max. It looked pregnant from all sides! She was very angry they said the box was only good if it was in the original square shape! She had to unpack it at the post office and put the stuff in two boxes! By the time I left she still hadn't undone all that tape!

I had no idea until recently you could get stamps at the supermarket! Unfortunately they aren't the commemorative ones, just the ordinary run of the mill stamps. Fine for most mail, but I like to put special ones on my pocket letters and postcards. You can also get stamps at the ATM at my bank.

Exactly!! I would prefer it to be like a supermarket, just pick up what you want and bring it to the check-out!
