'The Last Leaf' was one of the famous story of O. Henry, who is one of the famous short story writers in the english literature. The story depicts an incident which happened in NewYork in the 19th century and its brief is : Johnsy and Sue were artists and friends. They lived together. There was a painter who lived in the lower floor named Bermen. He was desperate that he couldnt draw a masterpiece yet in his whole career. At this time Pneumonia spread all over the city. A lot of people died. Before much time Johnsy and Bermen got diseased. Johnsy had this feeling that she is gonna die now. She looked out and counted "Twelve, Eleven, Ten". Sue looked at her anxiously. There was this creeper which grew on the wall of the house next to their's whose leaves are falling. Johnsy believed that she is gonna die when the last leaf falls. The doctor did told Sue that Johnsy's condition is getting worse. Johnsy said looking out, Look now there is only four left. The last one is gonna fall shortly. Sue said her to take rest and dont try to look there and gone to Berman's. She said everything to Berman. Berman thought she should not die. He came to visit Johnsy, she was asleep and he saw the creeper. There is snow outside, and heavy rain at night. When Johnsy looked outside in the morning, she saw a leaf which is yellow and green in colour. She got a hope and thought she was a fool to think she is gonna die. She wanted to live. Her condition became better. Berman died in the hospital at the morning. Neighbours found yellow and green paints with a brush near the wall on which the creeper grew and a Leaf which doesnt fall down even in the heavy rain, Berman's Masterpiece. Did O. Henry made Berman lie? Wasnt it a lie that isnt a lie to save Johnsy who was like a daughter to him? What are your thoughts?

Very interesting. I believe a lie is a lie. Whether it's to save someone from being hurt or to cover your own butt. A lie is a lie.

@Daljinder I'm not exactly fond of those either. I mean......if it's something like a playful little lie but you're both still aware of the truth then it's fine. Like when Wes and I call each other turds lol we know it's not true. Or if you told me that you haven't sent me anything and you actually did, when I get it, I will know it was a little playful joke to surprise me in the end.

I would tell a lie (a small one) to save a person's feelings. It all depends on the circumstances.
