So, what do I actually DO all day?

As some of you may remember about me, I work at a library. I started out mainly dealing with circulation and inter-library loan duties. This includes many things, by the way: New subscription cards, faxes, copies, a myriad of public access computer issues, used book sales, overdue notices, shelf reading , weeding, inventory, packaging and processing inter-library loans, etc. A few month back, an employee left us and several of her duties were divided among those of us who remained. I was given the job of taking care of our social media presence. I also oversee our adult coloring events and help create topical displays. I'm now in charge of our online book club on goodreads.com. I'm really enjoying my extra duties. What a blessing to also get a little extra pay! So, with all these things to do, I'm always stumped with a reply to those who say things to me like: "Wow! I'd love to work at the library! It must be so calm and quiet there" or "Do people even read books anymore? What do you do all day?" or "Must be nice to work somewhere where you could just read all day" (I've NEVER cracked a book to read on the job, by the way) or "So, do you just check books in and out all day?" Got any snappy comebacks for me?

I used to volunteer in an elementary school library. I know you don't have time to read on the job!

Thank you! I do have to admit though, that I often see books I want to take home with me..... and often do!

It is really great to work in the library. For me, it is like a dream to see so many books surrounding me.

@rocketj1 I can tell my dear friend. It is a self-fulfillment to work with people with different sets of personalities.

Wow... fascinated with what you do all day. Good that you have that patient. I could never be a librarian. I don't have the skill. I could get patient or I couldn't be put in my chair for a couple of hours. I salute people like you.
