My daughter flew to China for a friend's wedding

I know. It is a long way from Portland, Oregon to Wuhan, China, but nevertheless, she flew out Friday and called me yesterday morning to say she had made it to her hotel. I was relieved to hear she arrived safely. As I understand it, she flew through Shanghai and from there, many people on the flight were wedding guests. The bride and groom are friends from her University of Oregon days. They must be very good friends of her to go the expense of the flight and the other costs associated with a trip like that. Too bad she is coming back on Wednesday, with little time for sightseeing in what sounds like a beautiful city of eight million people.

I would never go that far for a wedding and pay so much money for it.

@ElizabethWallace Not a chance with this trip, unfortunately.

I'm with you. Unless, of course, there is a way to turn it into a business trip. Then, the expense would be folded into a legit tax expense.

I have a rule of thumb, you might mention to her when things settle back down. If I fly somewhere, I always add three days to the trip and go exploring. After all, the flight is the biggest expense. It is a wasted opportunity to not go see the sights.

If work allowed that would be the way to go.

@JamesHxstatic I was pretty lucky as a teacher. We could always use up to three days each year of our sick leave for personal time with no questions allowed.

I think that if that had been me I would have made it into a couple of weeks. While she was there she could have made it a real vacation.

Me too, except that her work schedule is harrowing right now and the closing on the house she is trying to buy may close in May.

I looked up Wuhan online and it looks like a beautiful place to visit. It was closed to Westerners until 1992.

What a great shame she can't stay a bit longer. I'm sure the bridal couple will be thrilled to have so many of their friends in attendance.

As a Chinese, I feel so happy to see some Chinese words here. Yes, I think they must be really good friends, and your daughter just flew there to attend their wedding without spending much time to travel around there. Anyway, hope your daughter will enjoy the wedding with her friends and also enjoy the time spent in China. I have never visit China before, perhaps one day...

Wow your daughter is a great friend to attend her friends wedding. Costly trip and she's only staying a few days!? That is little time to enjoy what China has to offer. I hope she has a blast and safe travels!

The farthest my husband and I went to participate in a wedding ceremony was from the south of Germany to Oxford, England.

@JamesHxstatic - That is wonderful! I'm glad she has been there several times, so she won't feel bad about this trip being so short.

There is tons of Chinese traditional snacks there. I hope she will love the food there and be back to tell you how delicious the food there is. ^-^

Funny thing, she is a vegetarian and apparently no one else among the guests were, so she actually had a little trouble finding something she could eat. She had a good time though, except for a five hour delay in the Shanghai airport coming home. She is back at work today.
