Most war memorials are quite prominent and easy to find but this one is quite hard to spot. Though I use Victoria train and Metrolink tram stop a lot I only saw this memorial when it was pointed out to me on a guided tour.
It is on the Corporation Street exit side of the station, marking the point where many WW1 troop trains took Manchester’s recruits and volunteers away from their homes and loved ones, often never to return, the point at which they probably saw waving, crying or cheering loved ones and well wishers waving them away to the living Hell of Flanders and the Somme. It makes for one of the most poignant and well placed war memorials of all.
The station has a second memorial, more prominently placed, commemorating railway workers and train drivers killed in the two World Wars too.

that one is rather visual, for not being overly artistic in of itself, one can see the ghosts walking past and not returning

@Jessicalynnt indeed, it works for being totally non-ostentatious - it has a great emotional impact

You may have noticed it at some point and not taking it in, I do that all the time.

I don't think we have a war memorial down in Colorado Springs. They do have a memorial for fallen firefighters, though.

Many people walk a street for years without knowing where it is, same can be said for some monuments, not because they are not important but because we are too busy.
I twice went to a job interview, when i could not find the place, i called to ask where the place was, i was surprised to know it was just a 5-minute walk from my home.
Another time, i had a job interview, decided to find the place a day earlier so i will know where im going the next day, took me over 2 hours trying to locate the place without success. When i finally found the place, it`s just a 7-minute bus ride from my home.

There is much more commemoration of the Great War in the UK than in the US. It had a profound effect upon a generation. Journey's End and all that.
