Sagging Pants

The trend of men and boys sagging pants has gone on for at least 15 years. I first remember seeing boys do it when I was a freshman in high school, though I'm sure it existed before that and my local junior high just enforced the dress code to prevent it. When I was in high school it was common to see only black males do it at first - but as the white rapper Eminem became popular, boys of all races began to pick up the fashion trend. Inevitably, I ended up knowing what color boxers all my male classmates were wearing on a daily basis.
As time went on, men and boys began to wear basketball shorts under their sagging pants. This was done for two reasons - it prevented their underwear from showing and also kept them warmer in the winter. It was a common sight in my neighborhood to see young men in their late teens and early 20's walking down the street having to hold their pants up with one had. Since this was considered a 'gangsta' style, we'd joke about how police loved this trend because when they went to chase these guys down, they would trip over their pants and be easy to catch. I never saw it happen - but I did see a few guys forget to hold their pants up while walking and ending up with them falling around their ankles while walking.
Now, it was just on the news yesterday now bad sagging is for men's hips and legs. Since they have to alter their natural gait to keep their sagging pants up, everything gets out of alignment. This puts pressure on their hips and knees that normally isn't there - especially on the hips. Some men were quoted as saying they felt the strain and pain from it. The good thing noted was that because the trend seems to stop as these men get older, the chance for permanent damage is low. I think its stupid that they continue to wear their pants like this when it obviously causes them pain. I guess it's no different than women wearing high heel shoes though. They're horribly uncomfortable and bad for our feet, but we wear them anyway. The bad choices we make to look fashionable.

I had not ever thought about the altered gait. I just think it looks very awkward. We do a lot for the sake of fashion.

I absolutely hate sagging pants. I had an employee show up to work with sagging pants last year, he was told that he could where pants the way they were intended or he could find another job. No one wants to see your underwear. It is a huge pet peeve of mine. As I drive down the road and see it I just want to roll the window down and yell at them to PULL UP YOUR PANTS, you look ridiculous. I also dislike hoodies, when your indoors and you have the hood on, you look like a thug, same with the falling pants. The way they have to walk makes them look like thugs. Ok, I'm moving on now that I got to say my piece. As always that is just my 2 cents worth!

I grew up in an era when you dressed decent whether you are going to church, school, the store or your grandparent's. Boys wore buttoned shirts tucked in. Girls didn't look like street walkers. I miss those days. I'm not a fan of seeing their underwear or most of their skin. If they think that these make them look fashionable they are mistaken. It makes them look like they haven't learned how to dress themselves properly. Guess I'm old fashioned, I've always like modesty when it comes to fashion. Have a blessed day.

I always wear for comfort and not for the looks, though I wore just a low-heeled shoes when am still working in an office. About the sagging pants, yes,I feel uncomfortable seeing them in it as if I wanted to give them a belt to make it stay in place!

I am not a fan of saggy pants, but I AM a fan of Eminem! lol. The saggy pants don't do it for me, personally. But I'm guilty of having some goofy fashion trends of my own when I was young. lol

I dare ya!
