Seated for 24 hours?

Can you remain seated for 24 hours? How about 12 to 18 hours? Well, this is the number of hours that one should remain seated when he travels up north because of the traffic in a long and winding mountain road along Sta. Fe-San Jose. My sister is planning to go to the capital city to visit her daughters and grandson, but the bus company told her that the trip takes up to 24 hours because of the ongoing projects of DPWH along this mountain range (Caraballo range). If she won’t go, she will on the school year semestral break on October. Flights are all fully booked too. How about you, can you remain seated for 24 hours?

he has a substitute, the conductor of the bus usually drives from a certain point in Sta. Fe until the bus reaches its destination

@sunrisefan it is the conductor who takes the second part of the trip to its destination.

That's a good question. Perhaps there's a partner driver like a co-pilot in a plane? They could take turns driving.

Nope but i'm sure they will have stop overs. The bus here going to Boracay used to have several stop overs so people could go to the toilet and stretch their legs and that's only for a 5-6 hour ride. But now the buses are really way comfortable with wifi on board, more than one television inside, and a lavatory! Now if there's a lavatory inside the bus I could ride for 24 hours but that doesn't mean i would be seating all throughout the ride.

the buses here have the lavatory and wi-fi, and television also, but sometimes during night trips, they just show one film then stop, and resume once it is nearing its destination. my butt will be painful too when seated for longer periods. so i usually sleep side-lying when the seat can be adjusted/ reclining.

@ridingbet yeah that's the best thing you could do anyway. Can't imagine taking a ride that long.

@toniganzon and riding on an international flight that long is all right, right? it is because we can stand and roam around that big plane, and sleep too without nuisance.

No way but on that long drive, no one can seat for 24 hours straight. It has many stop over. I tried commuting before from Cagayan de Oro to Davao, no short cut like on this days, there is a short cut to travel via Buda, before, we travel from Cagayan de Oro to Davao, it takes a day to arrive but we usually have stop over.

@ridingbet OMG, that is very ridiculous, I think if I were in the shoes of your sister, I won't prefer to travel at night time, I will select the day time at least I can see many beautiful views and it can help us relieve the pain of our back due to the long hour seating position.

@ida123 but it is also so hot if we travel by day, my friend. the AC of the bus cannot give coolness inside and we end up sweating.

of course there are some stop overs. but when you take the night trip, the bus stops twice only; for supper then before ascending the mountainous road.

the buses here are de luxe and have reclining chairs, and it has 3 to 4 seats a row only, but then, some buses get more passengers and let them stand if they have short trips or destination is just an hour or two away

@trivia79 but there are stop overs naman eh where you can stretch but it is on the same bus and the traffic due to improvements on the road that will make the travel time longer.

But surely, there are stopovers where you can stretch you legs, isn't it. The longest road travel by bus I've made was a 7-hour trip and it was backbreaking despite several stopovers.

ideally, a trip from our province to the capital city only takes 8 hours, but with the ongoing repairs and construction of roads in Sta. Fe-San Jose along Caraballo mountains, the trip takes 18 to 24 hours long.

breaks but not leaving the bus for too long because we might not ride on when it is time to go. but yes, we need breaks, but anyway, the buses here have Wi-Fi and TV to watch some movies.

@Marcyaz so when you ride on a bus and stay seated for 24 hours, it is expected that you should have a power bank to charge your mobile phones as well.

It would not be comfortable at all, but yes I could sit that long if I needed to. I am sure though that there will be stops along the way to stretch or get something to eat etc. My husband on Thursday will be riding 14 hours to go up north to see his grandmother.

@ridingbet He will actually be riding in a car with his step dad driving but I to would much rather take a bus or a train on a very long trip like that. There is so much you could see along the way! My parents live 3-4 hours from me and even for that distance if I see traffic building it is nerve wrecking and inconvenient to me!

There will be breaks. Our bodies aren't equipped to sit 24 hours and no breaks. That's how blood clots form. So there has,ri be stops along the way.
