Usually every trip that my children go on I get to go as a chaperon. These trips today I didn't know chaperons were allowed to go until it was too late. I really would have loved to go to my sons. He is a very nervous child and I am worried he will be scared today. My daughter is going to another school for a career day. My son is going to another school for a day of fun to meet with their penpals. They get to have lunch with them and recess. They wrote to once a month all school year and now they get to meet them. I think it is so exciting. They have never gotten to see photos of their penpals even. I hope they both have a wonderful day. My stomach is in knots.

I'm sure everything will be fine. I went on lots of my kids field trips as well when they were in school.

I remember going on many of them too when I was young and I had so much fun. I cannot recall my parents ever being chaperons though now that I think about it.

@shaggin I don't remember my mom ever going either. But times were different back then I suppose.

I know the feeling! I had to go on both of the field trips my kindergartner took this year. Unfortunately, district policy is apparently that chaperones have to meet the class at the location rather than coming along from the school... definitely a bit different than the way they did things when I was in school. I need to get used to the idea of not coming along, though... we've enrolled her at a local charter school for next year, and their policy is that classes take walking field trips with their teacher whenever the teacher feels it's appropriate. Honestly, I never would have allowed it with her current school... I don't trust them as far as I can throw them, especially with how bad their communication has been this year. I think it's going to be great that your son gets to meet his penpals. I hosted one of my Japanese penpals for a few weeks at one point... getting to meet the person behind the letters is such a great experience! I bet you'll hear all about it over the weekend.

Oh that is so neat that you hosted one of you penpals for a week. That is just soo cool that you got to meet them and spend time with them after writing to them. That seems so strange that at your daughters new school the policy is to walk to wherever they go. I guess they won't be going very far away for any trips. There really isn't much in our town to walk to besides the library and a few small stores lol. At our school we can choose to meet at the place or ride along on the bus. They prefer the chaperons to ride along on the bus so they can help with the students while they are on the bus. They can get pretty rowdy.

Yes the penpal trip sounds a lot more fun but I think any time they get to have a break from a day full of school work is a fun day!

@infatuatedbby They both said it was boring but I said it was probably better then sitting in class doing work all day and they agreed.

Wow what is it that there are doing there for 3 days. How old is he? In 4th grade at our school the children go camping for 3 days. It is only an hour away though. My daughter didn't go on the class trip she was worried they would serve food she hates lol. I have had to pack her lunch every day for school for about 5 years now. I was the same way when I was young.

@shaggin They have an itinerary that you wouldn't believe! I got tired just reading about it all! He's in 6th grade...sure will be relieved when he gets home safely. Maybe your daughter will eventually learn to like new foods.

Yikes I hate when they have to be at school so early. There is one trip here that they have to be at the school at I believe 4 in the morning and they do not get back until 11 pm. I don't even think a trip like that is worth it for my kids to go on. They would be completely exhausted and I would be worried sick.

@cindiowens The 4th graders at our school go camping for three days. My daughter didn't go as she was worried they would have food she wouldn't like. She is so picky. I honestly don't think my son will go either when he is in that grade as he is so scared to be away from me.

@shaggin Wow, that is a long day for them. And a long day for you to worry. Next year, the fifth grade goes on an over nighter. Not sure my son will go.

My son is 8 and my daughter will be 12 in a few days. I'm always just a worry wart especially with my son because he has such bad anxiety and is so emotional.

I am sure there are others like me out there but I just think I worry a lot. Probably too much but I cannot help it. I am just so emotional today. Not being able to figure out the noise in the garage started it all. Then my man texting me when I really don't know what I should do about him. My kids being out and me being nervous. I am such a mess I have just been crying at the drop of a hat.

You sound just like me! Instead of worrying, find yourself a good book and lose yourself in it. The kids will all come home with great stories to share with you!!

You are totaly right sitting and finishing this book I have been taking forever to finish would have been an excellent way to relax and stop stressing. I was just a mess all day over so many different things. I cried pretty much constantly for 5 hrs.

Don't worry about your kids, their on the right and good hands. Being so worried if our kids are out of our sight is normal, just pray that everything is gonna be alright.

Were you not able to go with them on their class trips is that why you worried? I usually go on them. We just have to pay admission for whatever they do and have a background check done. Its only $10 and is good for 5 years.
