It’s Been a Crazy Week

When I logged off last Sunday I didn’t think it would be a full week before I had a chance to log back. I knew things would start to get crazy once May rolled around, but not this crazy.
I had to go in early and stay late every day this week. By the time I got home I was too tired to think about logging on to the computer.
I’ve been slowly cleaning out cabinets and closets at school since January, but I was mostly just poking at it. Well, I’m down to the wire. I know the teacher that’s taking over my room. I’m leaving a lot of my teaching supplies behind, but not all of it. What I’m leaving and what I’m taking has to be separated and organized.
I did a lot this week as I’m not really sure how much time I will have over the next couple of weeks. There are a lot of get-togethers, dinner’s and parties on the books.
I’m looking forward to the last day, but I know I’m going to cry. Retiring will be both the beginning and the end.

Your right it is the beginning and the end but everyone I know loves retirement and enjoys the ability to do whatever they want when ever they want. I love retirement that's for sure.

Right, retiring is both the beginning and the end. The end of what we're used to be and beginning of a new life. I wish for you to enjoy your new beginning.

@BettyB yeah and that would make you realize that you're not teaching anymore.

@BettyB That has to be one of the hardest things to do. When one of my son's teachers retired she sent a bunch of stuff home with him. LOL She really loved those kids. It's hard to clean out stuff that you have used for such a long time. You don't know what you will need going forward.

I know that you really love teaching, I've read it all along over the years thru your discussions and posts. I can understand how the next 2 weeks will be bittersweet for you. Up here most teachers transistion into retirement by going down to call in basis for the first year. I suppose that is only putting off the inevitable, but at least you'd have a taste of the other side of life before you were fully immersed into it.

@BettyB A lot of the teachers up here do that because the first year they collect unemployment insurance, and that allows them to earn a certain amount without losing it and then as they begin the next year they start into their pension funds. I can understand being ready for something else.

@BettyB I'm sure they will be. I know you're looking forward to the end and the beginning at the same time. At first you won't know what to do with yourself, but that only lasts about an hour. After that you won't have enough hours in the day to do everything you want and hope to do.

Hey cool, I guessed correctly that this one may be where you've shared a bit more about your upcoming plans. Congrats on your retirement coming up soon. I didn't know you were old enough to retire, on the other hand, I know of some teachers that will retire long before retirement age.
Crying isn't all bad, it may work as a catharsis for you and enable you to let go and move into your next phase more easily. At least it didn't mean you were leaving mylot as I thought at first from the other post I read a bit ago.

I know I'll be spending more time here, but my first priority will be writing another book. I published three this last year. I would like to keep up the pace.

I hope you are able to get it all done in time. Retireing can be relaxing I really hope you enjoy it more then you think. I have so much to do this month to I am just a bundle of nerves. I will be really glad when May is over.

You have earned retirement. If you cry it will be just a little happy cry.
