Moden art and De-Oxit. What are your plans for this Sunday?

Yesterday, the right channel in my main stereo system went dead. I isolated the problem: the function switch (aux, phono, tuner, etc.) on the 1971 Kenwood receiver is I use as a pre-amplifier had gotten "gunky" and needed a cleaning. I broke out my trusty generic De-Oxit and gave the control a good going over, rotating the knob quickly back and forth, as I did so. Problem gone. I thought I'd sing songs of praise for De-Oxit (and other so-called "contact clearners") in a post. If you have any electronic device where one of the controls leads to static, or simply doesn't work, I recommend giving the unit a thorough going-over with this stuff before tossing it or taking it to an over-priced repair place. The cost of a can is maybe $8. I then tried to take an "artsy" photo of the contact cleaner along with three "Danish Modern" speakers to the right in my listening room. OK, it's not great art, but I like the angles and the wood and the screens I use. Now that I'm in the stereo zone, and all papers are graded, I may try to repair a KLH 24 speaker with a silent tweeter for my late Sunday morning activity. Do you like fixing stuff? What are your plans for this Sunday?

I fix whatever I'm able when I understand the problem well enough! :) For today, I've done some laundry and I'm waiting for some food to be delivered. Just a quiet Sunday for me. :)

Mine's been quiet so far (classical music and speaker restoration). But I DID manage to fix that speaker! I'm fairly proud of myself. I'd provide a more detailed description of what I did, but I think everyone's eyes would glaze over.

@CRK109 Just soak it in De-Oxit and it will be fine. Maybe.

I fear we're a dying breed. I'm one of the younguns in the community, and I'm over half a century old.

I will have to share this with my husband. We acquired a used scanner and the volume control doesn't always work. Maybe this will fix what ails it.

Especially if it's a rotary dial, it might help.

@TheHorse how do you apply it? Remove the knob first and spray it?

I just did a little work repairing a speaker screen frame and then came back to my computer. I've got to get that KLH 24 started before I have an attack of laziness!

My plans are to make this day the very best I can, and I've got a good start on that with a clean kitchen. I think the photo is good I'm glad you were able to get it fixed and working again.

A clean kitchen is good. I think I'll take out the garbage and do my dishes as well. I'm on a roll now because I got that KLH speaker running as well. Woo hoo! I'll attach a picture but won't try to nerdily explain anything unless someone asks.

@just4him I'm just slowly working on these speakers while doing other things. Today has been a productive day. Tomorrow, I will try to do a bit more.

@TheHorse Nice picture. Explaining to me is like talking a foreign language. However, the results I can see I understand.

im not the best person to call when it comes to fixing things. Sunday was busy for the entire family. we had plenty of visitors yesterday because of my nephews christening, my fathers post birthday celebration, and mothers day too.

I've been doing it all day. I have two screens looking good, one KLH 24 single sounding good, and one pair of AR-3as almost ready for the living room. I'm exhausted.

We use a miracle product called WD40. It seems to get so many things working again!

I have that here too. I'm not sure if it would work on electrical contacts.

I don't heard about these fixing things. Once our ceiling fan stucked I used W40 to restart and it works.
